go ahead, have at the valve. the fluid *shouldn't* drain out uncontrolled unless there's pressure forcing it out (like a power bleeder or the brake pedal is applied).

On the contrary - it will "gravity bleed". Not fast, but it will drip, drip continuously. Easily remedied by shoving a pen in it

Simon - clutch bleed is exactly like brake bleed but using the pedal to the left. Actuate clutch, open bleed, watch fluid squirt out, close bleed, release clutch, repeat.

I have spare bleed screws as well - I'll be home Sunday.

I know it'll drip, but it won't just pour out. Even if I did argue, I'm sure I'd see a spreadsheet proving me wrong...fruitless...

Progress Report:

Well, we're done.

As I suspected I did shear off the stuck bleeder valve. Briefly tried drilling it out but gave up and acquired a replacement caliper from Wagner's (Thanks, Mike!) for $25 including bleeder valve.

Getting the old one off proved to be a beatch too. Ended up having to disconnect the shock absorber in order to get a bigger wrench in there and conscripted a neighbor to add some extra push.

The replacement part went back on fairly easily and we successfully (finally) flushed out the old hydraulic fluid. Bled the clutch too.

Fresh engine oil. New air filter. She's purring like a kitten.
