I wish that "it worked" Kevin. I gave up and started working the Internet. I'll give it a whack tomorrow morning. There was a lot of mentions of placing a jack under the crank damper and lifting the engine from the front to try to break the interface. I have the engine on the hoist and a jack under the trans...resting for the night. Friday night is movie night at the Guthrie's. :sleep
Stay tuned for exciting updates. Perhaps I'll go spray everything with PB Blaster before I retire for the evening.

There really doesn't seem to be enough room to work under the car on jack stands.

I use SUV jackstands in the front and car jackstands in the rear

You guys make it sound like you don't have a lift in your garage.

Perhaps that was an insensitive taunt. :)

Good luck with it!

Cash you can come over anytime and serve as our lift....smart@$%#

On the other hand....the WRX has a workable clutch again. It grips much better than it ever has (during Pete's ownership).
I was really worried that it might not be the clutch since the clutch we took out looked reasonably good. It had plenty of material left before getting to the rivets. There was some evidence of slippage on the pressure plate; just not what I had expected given the amount slippage.
Again, thanks for the advice Kevin, Mike and Dustin.
