OK, I give up: how do you keep a cup of coffee from spilling in your lap in an E36? Google does not seem to help-- I would have thought there'd be an aftermarket gadget that would hold a modern cup in place, but I can't find it.

After spilling coffee all over my lap for the 3rd time in two weeks, I'm ready to pony up for a wildly overpriced gadget, or even attempt sawing into the existing holder.

Thanks!

I used this and liked it: http://www.ultimatecupholders.com/

Heck I might even sell it for a 12-pack of good beer, or a case of cheap beer :)

No it won't work. It says it is only for "fine" automobiles.

Also works with various models/years Acura, Audi, Honda, Infiniti, Lexus, Mazda Miata, Nissan, Saab, Volvo, and VW.

they just said BIMMERS/Audis first cause those guys are known for sitting and waiting( in line at the dealership service center) so they need a better cup holder

Nevermind, this device is a lot cheaper and works much better than the stock cupholder:

Isn't it sad that "The Ultimate Driving Machine" doesn't have the ultimate cup holder as standard equipment?

VK, I thought you remembered that BMW doesn't stand for the "Ultimate driving machine"

Our e39 has the same problem. I got the service records when we bought it and the cupholders broke at 5,000 miles and were replaced under warrantee. Over the next few years they were replaced several times and finally the dealer just put in a delete plastic plate for the rear one.

Ford has cup holders down to a science in their trucks. My Ranger had cup holders that held everything perfectly.

Does the accessory dual cup holder that installs in the center console (see http://www.bavauto.com/lview.asp?imgfile=assets/imglib500/82111468391.jpg) not do the job? I put one in each of my E36s and never had a spill. The only issue I had was location - cups sorta get in the way when shifting a 5 speed.

Thanks! How is that different from stock?
