Thanks! How is that different from stock?

Guess that depends on whether your E36 came with this type of cup holder or not. Of my three E36s (all bought used), one had this type of cup holder, the other two did not - I purchased and installed one in the two cars that didn't have 'em.

Its hard to tell from the tiny picture, but my '98 M3 has what looks to be that cup holder center console, its just nothing will fit into the darn things as they're too narrow and too shallow for even the smallest travel mugs and water bottles.

Yep, sorry, it's the same as you already have then. I never had a spill with that type of cup holder, but I only used it for drive-thru soft drinks, probably never a travel mug or water bottle.

While looking for a cup holder for our latest BMW I ran across this. We had something similar i our last car that was attached to a fancy base that dropped into the center console and it was great. This one got pretty high praise from a few folks. If you put it on with double sided tape then if it doesn't work out you can ditch it. And, it's cheap. We paid over $50 for two of these mounted on a vacuum molded base.

I can vouch for the cupholders Charlie posted. Best aftermarket ones I've found. Still not *great* for all types of cups, but better than most.

When I was less cultured than I am now, I thought those were standard equipment in a MB I bought. I will admit that I paid way to much money for one in some Bimmerdouch catalog for a z3 before I found them in the boating parts dept at Overtons!

I think they actually were standard equipment in some MB's, Cline. You're not the first person to tell me that.

Thanks, Charlie, that's just what I was looking for.
