I tried to talk my wife into getting a new car so I would not have to replace the timing belt but no dice.

I just bought one you can borrow...but I'm using it 3/5-3/6. You are welcome to it after that. I could bring it to the March Autocross.

I was thinking about doing it this week. I'll split the cost of it with you since it's brand new.

You can come get it on one condition. I've heard they are fragile (Kendt broke one doing his TB job). If it breaks, you have to promise me you'll order a new one and have it to me before 03/05. I'm on a pretty tight schedule and that is the only weekend I have to do my TB.

It wasn't so much the tool being fragile, it was me using it improperly. The camshaft alignment bar is meant to just hold the cams in place and can't take any bending force.

Wait, OK, it was a different tool

I just strapped a couple of pieces of flat metal together that came to the right thickness and was careful that it remained in place when replacing the belt. I believe one of the pieces was a metal shelf bracket. :-)

You're welcome to borrow mine or just look around your garage - I'm sure you've got what you need.
