I have a set of 9" and a set of 9.5".

I'll check with Cash to pick up a wasted one when he's done with them...no hurry. Thanks.

My size is rounded shoulder design, which I suppose is good.

I'm leaning towards the V710's just b/c they are a known entity to me, but not positive. $200 cheaper for the set certainly sounds attractive in the R1's though, but I'm not sure.

Yes, the plan is to set up for H-stock. First I need to get the new clutch on the car (on the way) as well as the front bar. I'm tried of running a RIDICULOUS pax for my level of prep, plus it looks to be a pretty fun competition in H-stock this year.

So I looked into the round vs square. There are numerous places only saying that the round shoulder tires are for strut cars with little camber and the square are better for cars with a lot camber.

However per unit 'tire size' the square shoulder tires have 20+mm more contact patch which says more grip to mean so on a relative basis if you think you are running 245 on a round shoulder tire and this is functionally equivalent to a 225 A6, well that sounds off to me. Anyway, if Matt got 80+ runs out of his square shoulder 245/40/17s, with 0.0* camber, I hope I'm ok on a similar weight car with -1* camber :)

Sounds like you read some of the same stuff James. My thinking was that the tire is going to chord right on outer edge. How is more tire there going to speed the process?

I'd imagine it has something to do with the steering 'feel' or turn-in perhaps.

Is 80 runs accurate on your SI Matt on your current v710s?

My wife didn't have any problems making it through the season on the Mini's V710's last year, and they were square shouldered, FWIW. That wasn't 80 runs, but it was every tarheel event plus a couple others.

Well, since you asked (I've been meaning to count but was afraid to..) I've got 60 runs total and not that it matters much but 8 were on the IS which is a double A-arm car. Oh yeah, plus a few runs to Hardee's in L-burg and Danville.

One, maybe two of the tires are wearing quicker in the middle of the contact patch. Weird. It's almost concave.

After the TnT? If I cord them at the halfway point, I'll be happy. If they last all day, ecstatic.

I actually bailed last year after doing the work assignment and only morning runs because I nearly corded my street tires that were on the car.

Any thoughts on Hankook Ventus Z214 (soft compounds) vs v710s or R1s?

Looks like there won't be any 245/40/17 V710s stateside till April or later :(.

Duuuude, just bite the bullet and get some A6's. They're 'only' $1122.00 shipped. Ouch!
I'll be picking up mine tomorrow from Tarheel's tire guru, Mr. Brookshire.

Aaron B. is the only person I know of that has used them. He said they were decent. I was going to run them but I could not find any in stock when I had the BMW. Bimmerworld is a distributor and might have some in stock.

I ran the Z214's for a set back in 2005 on the RX-8. The lateral grip was quite good, but they spun a lot off the corner. I would run another set if they made the right size for the STi as they are about $100 per tire cheaper in the 18" sizes vs. Hoosier. - AB

James Wilson ran them on his HS impreza and liked them. Said the have nice stiff sidewalls and were good for camber challenged strut cars. He even suggested getting the c51 over the c71 because they are cheaper and just as fast. I think I might go this route.

I know when the LRR guys showed up in their Miata they were running them and enjoyed them. I briefly debated them but they are the same price as V710s in my size.
