Going to look at it tomorrow. I heard 2003's could be trouble, but I thought the 7.3l was the target vehicle. I know nothing about trucks, so I thought I'd make sure I wasn't missing anything.

2003 is the first year of the 6.0, there were 7.3l manufactured within the same model year. as long as it is a 7.3l you should be fine. is it a dually?

Ok I think one last question...

Do I need to stop at the "scales" out on the Interstate?

I never really paid attention to what size trucks have to beyond tractor trailers.

And if I want to see just how much weight I'm sitting on top of. Can I pull in and use their scales? Or am I gonna get yelled at...

I think it's better to use the ones at the gas station/truck stops.

I have a feeling if you use the DOT ones and they find you are over weight they will write you a ticket while you happen to be so convienent.

Marty's right. Once, very long ago, in another life, we pulled into the scales (large Grumman truck pulling 31' trailer). Not only were we found to be overweight but also a couple of feet (60' was the limit then) too long. Cited, and had to reach our destination in an *off highway* manor. Painful! Just keep on trucking!!!

Damn, I'm not stopping just so you can see how much your rig weighs. Its bad enough I have to leave late, stop early and drive my car all the way to Florida while you ride in comfort in your new tow rig. Especially since you didn't buy a big enough truck and trailer to tow both cars.

I think I've found a lead on a decent 2002 dually. If this works out then I'm looking for a used single car enclosed. Anybody have suggestions on where to start that search?

Before you purchase a used trailer, you should price new ones and compare the price of a used one + required maintenance items to the price of a new one.

Often with open trailers it's hard to justify buying a used one, because the used prices are so closed to the price of a new one.

Good point. I'm a little surprised that used isn't that much cheaper (less expensive) than new. I've ran across a few new dealers that are in line... I'm just wondering how much the accys are. Used can come with winches, AC, and work benches ready to go.

I think I'll try to borrow something for next weekend's CMP and then find the right hauler before AV's VIR in November. Given my heartache at NCCAR, I need to be prepared in case the 328 doesn't hold up to two days at CMP.

i got my trailer from Rigsbee's in Knightdale Colin. it has proven to be a well built trailer.

http://www.homesteadertrailer.com/asp/t ... ampion.asp

it is heavier than a Pace or the other high dollar units, and it doesn't have all of the bells and whistles but it has served me well over the past 5 + years.

find one with 5K axles, wired for lights and power, with a dovetail and the rest is inconsequential.
