Ok, I posted a similar thread, now I'll be specific. Are there any manufacturers other than Toyota and Mazda that offer discount prices on factory parts if you participate in some form of motorsports such as autocross or timetrials. Thanks!

I believe the answer is no... someone will corect me if I'm wrong.

Mazda = MazdaSpeed (old Mazda Comp)
Toyota = TRD
Honda = None
Mitsu = None
Chevy/GM = None
Subaru = I think not, but they seem like the most likely candidate.
Ford = None
Nissan = None

Did I miss any?

I checked into BMW's website and they have the car club a person can join that gives discounts, but I'm betting it's the kind of discounts that aren't quite up to what I'm looking for. I've emailed the local chapter to find out more.

Diane, when you said you got the longblock, I've heard different descriptions of what that means. Did you just get the engine or did you also get accessories such as alternator, etc? Thanks again. I may be harrassing you about miata's again one day.

Chevy/GM - None.

Well yes and no... ;-) A number of Chevy dealers offer this Racer Net program. It comes out to about 15% off list at best. You could do better through gmpartsdirect.com.

Now, if the Chevy you own happens to be a very specific one that is near and dear to my heart then there is a discount program. It isn't offered by GM but certain Chevy dealers do it and just look the other way. It's a grassroots thing. I paid 15% over cost plus shipping. It's widely known on the Corvette Forums who the dealers are.

Toyota has one of the best programs out there. Through TRD, you get 50% off dealer prices on all parts, shipped to your door for free. - AB

OK... now don't laugh...

I moved stuff from the old motor to the new one... intake + other little pieces parts that attach to the outside. I don't know what all the little parts were though (that's the part you aren't supposed to laugh at). If you call Mazda, they could tell you what came with the longblock specifically. They told me, but it meant little to me, I'm sad to have to admit.

I just got confirmation from the NC chapter of BMW, no deals on parts. Looks like it's Mazda or Toyota. I'm going to see if this includes lexus in with the toyota group. It really bothers me that more manufacturers aren't doing this, specifically honda!

BTW Diane, that's what I wanted to know. The reason I asked is because when I was looking at a replacement engine for my 1990 crx, some of the shops listed short block as only the engine assembly, no external parts like the PS Pump or intake/exhaust manifolds and they listed the long block as containing all those items. I think long or short block actually refers to the type of engine, but I dunno!

A short block is typically w/o head(s) and accessories. Basically a block with internals and with the pan attached.
Long blocks include heads, but I'm not sure if a standard exists for external accessories (PS pump, alternator, A/C, etc.) ?

Even working with GM looking for a 350 crate motor they are all different let alone vendor to vendor. Short block is typically what Frank said though. The block and all internals with timing chain and possibly cover and flywheel. Long block typcially gives you cylinder heads complete with lifters, rods, and rockers and maybe valve covers. Some variations may include a matched intake and carb and possibly distributor. Even what they show as a complete block will have a water pump but no PS, AC, alternator, or exhaust manifolds.

Some companies that sell replacement engines have a few more parts but you will always need parts from your old engine. The replacement ones are simply for a blown engine fix. The other ones that I looked at are pretty much for you to custom build the top end to get the Hp/Tq curve you are looking for.
