Is there someone locally who will shave a tire down to get rid of a flat spot? I have a RT-615 that has a fairly decent flat spot on it that I'd like to have reduced a bit if possible. I know with new tires this isn't hard to get done but once tires are mounted most won't shave them.

If there isn't anyone locally who will do it, does anyone have a used RT-615 or two in 195/60r14 with some tread on it? Can't buy them new anymore so I'd have to replace all 4 with something else otherwise. :)

Nothing local that I'm aware of.

Most places that I've heard of that do shave tires will not shave used tires- they are worried about damaging their equipment.

Looks like the RT 615 has been replaced by the RT615K, shouldn't be a big deal to replace it with one of those- or if you're really concerned, just buy a pair of the 615K's.......and run 2 + 2

I can't remember where I saw it now, but there are a couple local places that'll do this. Interestingly, it's very similar to putting it on your rear wheel and spinning it up. :)

The race tire shaving places all use blade machines because it's cheap and easy, but they won't touch used tires for obvious reasons (grit embedded in there kills blades). But big truck places do shave used tires with a machine that's more of a grinder and doesn't care about the grit in there. Those tires are molded with so dang much rubber on them for life that when they have an alignment issue and screw one up, it's often still cost effective to shave it back right and keep using it.

But finding a place friendly to small tires can be the tricky part, but I know there are folks in this club who have found places. I'm curious, too, because I have some BMTs (Big Mud Tires) I'd like to have shaved back round.

I got these right before the Dunlop Z1s came out in my rim size. I'm jumping over to those once Laura and me burn the 615s up. I have them on the GTO and love em.

I'd need a 4x100mm to 5x120mm adapter to get em on a car that could burn them down some. :)

That's where I have it now. I'd like to try and true it up a bit before CMP, if that's even an issue. I want to try to keep the old ones on the car because I'm bound to lock up a wheel a few more times before I get used to this whole non-abs thing.

If you can power brake it somehow, then it is worth the effort.

I flat spotted a front tire (and didn't know it) on a Foxbody Mustang I had years ago. I chased a roaring noise for weeks to the point that I changed bearings and races on the front end (had 150k+ anyway). I finally figured out it was a small flat spot on one of the fronts and rotated it to the rear. Then I promptly found a good spot to do a 5-10 second burnout (ok, it was probably longer than that). Presto! Round again!

Actually, I just meant put it on the rear wheel and fuhgedaboutit. It will go bu-bump bu-bump bu-bump down the straight, but it isn't too annoying after you get used to it
