subaru tapping noisie

hi all. my wrx is making a odd tapping noise, light tapping noise.. on i think the right hand bank..sounds like light valve noise.. it cant be good. it got low on oil once, :oops: and i fear it may be destined for a shorter life than i anticipated. is there a way to repair the car without spending massssssive amounts of money? :?:

Lifters tap.... rods knock

If you have alot of miles, it's likely a sticky lifter. Does it go away when warm or tap all the time

If it's a lifter, you can pull the lifter and replace it.

most likely something light. having just lunched a rod in my old nissan at vir..it does not sound that heavy. very light.. when it warms up, the sound is not as prominent.
