My opinion is that Saab is going to die. Regardless of how much money GM is offered. Especially by Spyker. GM's biggest concern is that they sell off a lot of technology with Saab. They are afraid that will end up in the hands of the Chinese or Russians. Then their technology comes back to bite them in lost sales competing against vehicles built using their technology.

Koenigsegg had financial backing from China's Beijing Automotive, which ended up buying the rights to some of Saab's older models last week. Spyker's largest investor is a Russian bank, Convers Group. Another Spyker backer is Mubadala Development, a sovereign wealth fund from Abu Dhabi that has the resources.

It is in GM's best interest to just let Saab die.

I'm wondering what will happen to the 9X concept now. I mean any concept car that needs static cling numbers for the intended year of release takes on a personality of its own. At least it showed there was alternate work for Porsche and Jeep designers.

China/Russia/India is buying up all the cars that now none of the "industrialized" countries can afford to build. (Actually, buying up all the European brands that Ford and GM bought and then couldn't mass market/platform engineer/nameplate swap to make profitable for them. And yes, those same people will own all the technology in those cars, although I have to wonder how much there really is that they can gain from. Eventually they would just buy one copy and then duplicate it for half the price.

Maybe they will duplicate the Lucas electrical systems, one can hope....

per Autoweek http://www.autoweek.com/article/2009123 ... /912309994 the deadline for finding a buyer has been extended to Jan 7, and Saab is restarting production to fill existing orders.
