I have been on the search for good Charleston style Shrimp and Grits in this area. So far I haven’t found any. The main difference between Charleston style and say New Orleans style is Charleston uses a white or cheese sauce, where N/O uses Andouille Sausage sauce.

Any place around the triangle that you think has good Shrimp and Grits?

I don't eat seafood, so I'm not the person to ask, but I believe Crook's Corner in chapel hill serves some form of this dish (not sure if its Charleston or N/O style). From looking at the recipe, it appears to be Charleston. My dad likes them.

Ideas here:

82 Queen would be hard to beat, but hardly qualifies as in the Triangle.

My favorite shrimp and grits in the area is at the Saxapahaw General Store, where you can get some of best food in the area along with your gas, cigarettes, and a new hunting cap. (The weekend dinner and brunch menus change every week and are fantastic.)

Its N/O style, though-- I've had this dish everywhere, and haven't come across a creamy version yet.

wow, that's quite a ways out of the triangle.

I guess I could drive the Charleston.

Depends on where you are! Its closer to me than downtown Raleigh, and I'm in Chapel Hill, solidly in the triangle.

But yes, it is way the heck out in the country.

Didn't realize you were MX 9. Strange to see this thread (with almost identical responses) on here and nasioc.

Everyone swears by Crook's for Shrimp & Grits. I still haven't eaten there, sadly. Several friends report Piedmont as being awesome. Watt's is great. A friend supplies their Pea Shoots  (Really. They are awesome with Salmon.)

Marty,

Just eat it at the clubhouse at VIR. Makes the trip up that much more special, LOL.
