could just be me, but i believe the wrath of monopolization has chowed on my personal work station.

my Outlook has been deemed bogus, (could be but i have a disc), and i no longer have any audio for some unknown reason.

searched the web for a fix to the audio (cmicnfg.cpl) issue and while i followed the instructions, i still have no use of my audio.

XP circa 2003. i believe i am being targeted as i have not yet submitted to the Kool-Aid of planned obsolescence. those bastards!!!!!!!!

Have you tried restarting? :D if that doesnt work, try fdisk or rm -r /

The latter two will permenently fix your issues :P (please dont try this. if you do, I do not take responsibility for the end results.)

Forget Micro$quish. Forget Macintosh. Forget RedHat.

Here is a Unix for those who don't think being a nerd is cool...

Copy all your My Documents stuff to a USB drive.

It's called Ubuntu. Download the ISO image. Double click it. Burn to CD. Reboot from that CD. Wipe out that crap on your hard drive. Install Ubuntu in about 5 steps. The tougher steps being like, What is your name? Where do you live?.

It automatically installs Open Office, a Messenger that communicates with most everything. A photo editor, picture manager, video player. Bunch of Games. It acts and drives similar to Windows. Has built in auto updater.

You don't need a 3,900,000Mhz Cray Processor with 100TB of memory to run it. a 2Ghz with 2 GB memory box with a 40GB hard drive and go. Cost for all the software $0,000.00.

You just need the Winders box for the Accounting packages for your business. You don't need sound for those. Just hum kaching when you hit enter ;-)

I have XP on our 2 desktop machines, but I run Ubuntu as well on our netbook (1.6GHz Atom processor), and have an Ubuntu-based server running inside a small Virtualbox VM on my main XP machine. Works rather nicely, and is a good way to have XP and Linux on the same PC.

except that you have it backwards, windows should be in the VM on a linux host :)

actually i do the same thing in the very few instances where i need windows for something, i have a win xp filesystem on a small loopback file that i run with kvm. works great and if the xp instance gets borked i can revert back to an older copy in about three seconds.

I haven't actually used chrome since it wasn't available for Linux the last time I checked. Is it that bad?
