What a pantywaist, Little z3 1.9 and omega. Sean Connery was the man Aston Martin DBs, Rolexes, walked when playing Golf and more woman than Tiger off the course.

:) No, I think it's pretty funny as well, but I respect Chuck's opinion.

I do too, and that's why I pretty much agreed with him in my first response, though I added that it's all just hoo-hah in the end. My hoo-hah tells time, though. :)

Classic types of jewelry (that goes back centuries) that are in use today are things like rings, chains, pendants, etc. I think that over time some things go out of fashion and some things come into fashion. I believe that watches can be "jewelry" by Chuck's definition of "body adornment meant to accent and compliment the body, much like makeup or clothing". The watch I wear depends upon what I am doing and what I am wearing. So it is an accent that compliments.

It also happens to also be functional. IMHO it is not the only "functional jewelry". Consider the following items...

* Wedding bands
* Belt buckles
* Cuff links
* Tie clips
* Sun Glasses

Since Chuck personally created the jewelry that he sold, he may cringe at this, but I disagree with the "no brand" comment. People will clearly buy particular jewelry because of the brand. I think the "Pandora" brand craze is a perfect example of that today.

Yeah, and make-up, too. Hell, people REALLY into that stuff can actually spot particular BRANDS of make-up on someone. No shit, seen it done.

Reminds me of the definition of a smart a$$: someone who can sit on an ice cream cone and tell you what flavor it is. :lol:

First, I am a designer/craftsman more than an artist. A craftsman utilizes extraordinary skill to create quality functional objects.
A designer "packages" those objects in a visually and tactilly appealing form. I follow the tenent that "Form follows function".
I admire both new designs and archetypical ones that are timeless, such as Bruer's Wassilly and Barcelona chairs, Wright's Falling Water, Fuller's Geodesic Dome, and Movado's Museum Watch.
I am also a Modernist in that I embrace technology that improves the quality of life and beautifies the environment in revolutionary ways: Lcd TVs, cds, pocket calculators, etc.

Have I told this story yet? I bought my wife a Movada (Juro sport I think) last year for Christmas. Some Jewelry store in the mall was going out of business and I think they had some sale out crowd in there that new nothing. Mostly crap. Mostly stupid red necks in there looking a big chains. (that was for you Steve). I ask to see the two Movado's. The What's the young sales man asks. Ok, the two stainless Steel Watches on the end. Oh, those arent Stainless Steel Those are white Gold I am told. End of story, I get the guy down to 250 and buy it. I am still kicking my self for not getting him to 450 for both of them.

Steve, you carry a cigar purse. You are a very conflicted person.

Hey, what happened to this thread? I guess this falls on the functional side of the fence: http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/cellphone/c16c/

My Mother-in-law got me the Alpha 24 hour watch for Christmas! I love this watch. I have been lusting after a true 24 hour dialed watch since I started collecting watches a few years ago. Unfortunately they are all old and EXPENSIVE!!! Thanks to Wes, I found the Alpha and pointed it out to Rebecca who sent the information to her Mom.

Yes I know it is a cheap Chinese knock off but it works like a champ, is an automatic mechanical watch and is freakin' cool.

Here's what the watch looks like.

I know that knock offs are the devil but my new 24h is an Alpha watch.

www.alphawatchusa.com

My MIL said she didn't have any problem with them. Maybe Wes can chime in since he has bought a watch from them.

EDIT - I have only had my watch for a couple of days but the build quality is really nice, and it is keeping perfect time. Keep in mind that this is an automatic wind mechanical watch. Not some quartz thing. I am really happy with it.

That's a sweet looking watch, knockoff or not.

I've been sporting my $100 Swiss Army Recon for about five years and it's been through hell & back with no complaints, other than driving from Raleigh to a small jewelry store on Franklin Street to get the battery replaced at an authorized Swiss dealer.

It's simple, rugged and I haven't seen to many that are similar in design.

digging up this old thread.....

I have a chance to buy a Tag watch and it looks something like this....

http://www.worldofwatches.com/segf/TagH ... 0550.html#

The one I'm looking at is a slightly older build, circa 2000, and doesn't have the LINK text nor does it have the red sweep hand. It does have the reg/green TAG logo instead of the white on black as this picture shows.

Anyone know of any websites or how I might validate the price of the watch? He's asking a few coins for this one. I do trust the buyer, known him for years.
