why is it so hard to find 275 or 255 in 17"?

With the SM I could get a used set of R-compounds or race scrubs with in a day or two. Needing to get just some 275/40/17's or 255/40/17's with just enough tread for 2 events has proven to be a difficult task.

I'd buy a new set but I will have to buy new Spec tires in January anyway.

This sucks.

There's a new pair of 275/40/17 V710's on eBay that's bidding very low so far, but there's over 9 days left on the auction. Might be worth keeping an eye on.

Finding 275/40-17 tires is as easy as can be. That is a more popular 17" size. That is of course if you are buying new. Finding used up slicks maybe not so much. You'll have better luck finding used up 315/35-17.

Don't just hanging out on the Mustang forum looking for leftovers. Try hanging out on the Vette forums in the C4 section too. 275 and 315 are really popular with them. I don't often see used race tires that are worth the cost of buying+shipping+mounting to make it worth my while. But to each his own. Sometimes there are some good deals out there.

Edit: I forgot about Camaro too. Maybe look over on the LS1 Tech forum and all.

To echo Graham, finding new 275/17s is easy. There is a reason why 725/17s used scrubs are hard to come by... they are used on high horsepower cars that use them up. I never take a tire off until I see the cords... I proved that point at CMP in June by cording three of the four Hoosiers, LOL. The cars that use the 15" rims are light enough that they rarely cord a tire? That could be a ba assumption on my part.

I have bought used 275/40/17 Hoosier Koni Challenge scrubs from Mark at Performance Autosport in Richmond, VA in the past. See if they still have some: http://www.performanceautosport.com/ I bought 16 tires from these guys a couple of years ago.
