I love the comparison pics with the Carrera. The RCR917 looks "large" until put next to even a relatively small street car.

Are you going to be able to drive it a "lot" at track days, etc. or is this a Vintage Race vehicle? I assume with a fresh engine it will still be VERY fast compared to almost anything else on the track. Do you have plans to put drivers in it who used to race these cars?

This might give insight into the 911.

That's exactly what I did to my car, only taken to yet another major extreme. Okay, so I didn't do hardly anything in the engine compartment...but I did a lot of the other stuff! Those are more modern versions of my custom wheels (mine are hand made using donor Fuch centers), I have 930 brakes, most of the suspension is the similar, and my interior is similar. I even have nice iPod integration! :)

Okay, yeah, I want their car instead. Dammit. Wes, you suck.

Ok, I'm going to need some time alone after looking at the photos. Damn, both of those cars together look good!

Guess what Honey? I don't need those little blue pills anymore, just put the lap top next to the bed!

After that last post, I'm not sure I can allow Cline inside such a "tight" cockpit with me!

I honestly have no idea what I'm going to do with it once it's running. I think I'm really just some rear-view mirrors away from DOT legality (yes, that's a DOT windshield, it has a wiper, horn, signals, headlights). RCR also makes a hydraulic spring lifter you can put on the front shocks that will let you press a button to raise the front end some four inches to clear driveways and speedbumps and the like. So in theory I'd just want another set of wheels and some DOT tires and "stick" some mirrors on it and I could drive it.

I do plan to put it on track, but I'm reserving judgment on how much until after I've gotten it out there. It might scare me off doing it again.

I don't know any of the "old" 917 drivers, so unless someone approaches me wanting to hop in it, well, I don't see that happening. Even one of those guys will need to agree to pay for any damage he does!

The Carrera is a 1987 car I bought from a guy in Atlanta. 80-something thousand original miles with full documentation since new on service. Wasn't anything special otherwise except it had factory AC. I sent it to Farnbacher and they upgraded the entire suspension to pretty much the "best of the best" parts. 930 brakes with hand made Fuchs wrapping them (can't fit any less than a 17" wheel over those brakes and believe me, these BARELY fit!). The 3.2 has had the top end massaged with some better parts, and it's an aftermarket exhaust and intake. Then the entire body was backdated to look like a 1973 RS *except* I didn't remove the sunroof. Period correct mirror on the drivers side only, etc. The snout and decklid are fiberglass and not steel, but nobody makes repro steel and I didn't care enough to go searching for the real thing.

It's got repro RS seats and we changed out the burgandy interior to black. I put a killer stereo in it, but wish I hadn't. We updated the AC with all modern parts, too.
