Team Two Doctors, A Nasa Scientist and a Foreset Ranger have abandond their automatic Volvo (which never got off the ground) and picked up an old Audi for a possible bid in one of the Lemon's type races for next year.

I know NOTHING about these cars.. and was wondering if anyone has ever owned one of these?

I know its a 2.2 liter 5 cylinder non turbo, awd, with an electronic locking rear dif. We are now looking into getting a cage put in, as none of us can muster non booger welds, and would get laughed out of the paddock during tech. Our first choice is Chris in Hillsborough... but I know he is usuilly very very busy.

we still NEED to get organised... but am wondering If i'd be wasting my money on this platform....

I also have the chance to pick up an 89 325i for 500 bucks, but it needs brakes and cooling work..... so my budget would be blown to start with this car..

honesty is appreciated....
thanks
jp

You might wanna ping the guys a Schumacher Taxi Service, they run an Audi 80 or 90 or something (I don't speak German cars, it better for my mental health)

Also Team Quattro Libre knows a little about old Audis. They ran a 4000 Quattro.

While an E30 would be great, don't do it. They organizers hate them because they are so common. Believe me, I know.

Brakes are free! Ditch the Audi and get the BMW.

Ask Adam Ligon if he thinks that this is a good idea. If he says "yes", he's lying to you. Run away, far and fast.

The only thing worse than an Audi Lemons would be a (insert British car here) Lemons. Those things make Saab engineers look good.

ooh ooh A reneault would be very timely right now. My Daughters live in Kenosha wisconsin which is an old Chrysler town and everybody that ever had a relative at Chrysler gets crazy deals on what ever Chrysler crap is a slow seller. When I go up there it is like a time warp. Gremlins, Concords, Javelin and RENAULT ALLIANCES!! 98 percent of people would think it was a 318. I'm going up there in a couple of weeks if you want me to look around for you.

Wait, I thought you paid her to move back and bought her a new car a couple of years ago?

If they offered me the US Mint I wouldn't move to (insert anywhere it's cold).

There's a two-driver team that sometimes turns up at the ARRC in a pair of ITB Audi Coupes (non-AWD, that's not allowed in IT for now). They're screaming fast...for about half the sprint race. Which is when they break. I'm serious.

Those are top-dollar, no holds barred IT builds. I'm not sure I'd trust a $500 build to withstand a 90 minute ECR, let alone a 24 hour race.

Stuff breaking is part of the LeMons world. That being said, you'd be astounded what what kind of hardware lasts through an entire race at LeMons. The aforementioned 4000 Quattro, while slow, made it through the majority of 2 races, and IIRC, was running at the end of the one last month. A 73 LTD ran like clockwork (slow clockwork). Alfa's have made it through. Our craptastic e30 made it through 28 hours of racing without a hiccup (but had issues in third race...that were avoidable) It also helps that the average speed around the little course we run at CMP is about 55mph.

While none of these cars was an optimal build, it is a testament to how tough a relatively modern car really is.

Except Audis. And that bright green Del Sol thing that keeps on coming to enduros when the owners should have set it on fire by now.

I'm telling ya, most of the cars I KNEW would die quickly were running at the end.

The POS Dodge Charger thing wasnt one that surprised me.

At the CMP lemons, I believe there were 3 Audis. 1 4K Quattro, 1 5K Quattro, and the Schumacher Taxi Service 90. All did reasonably well, IIRC. The Schumacher Audi has been in at least 4 or 5 LeMons events.

Theres a comfort factor to consider... I've never worked on Audi's.. come to think of it all of our "team" members (other than me) have had BWM street and racecars... except one

it just so happens its the guy who purchased the car for 250 bucks.... hasn't heard it run... says its got a bad fuel pump... I know, I know it doesn't sound good....

anyway

when we do run into a problem, it might not be as easy to root it out as we are all unfamilar with the car...

If I could only talk them into a fox mustang....

going this weekend to look at the 325i to fix up and sell.....

this crap is ruining my life :D
