Did anyone see Travis Pastrana role a perfectly good EVO on the Michelin Race of Champions on the Speed Network? I didn't realize that Travis was a champion rally driver.

Yeah I saw that! Wow! What a roll. And then he continues to finish his run, crushed roof and all!

Rally, you gotta love it.

Travis rented a WRX from a friend of mine (lives in Apex actually) for the SCCA Sno*Drift ProRally in Michigan. He ran a great event, from all accounts very smart and sane. On his first full rally he was posting top-10 stage times on almost all stages. Unfortunately he slid off the road and got stuck for 20 minutes on Stage 4, and lost another 10 minutes on Stage 6 (don't recall now why- Anders?), which put him way down the finishing order. No damage to the car, though. He even, in true rally fashion, stopped on stage to pull a fellow competitor out of a snowbank.

Folks say he's a great guy, very friendly with no ego. I hope we get to see him come out to more events this year!

After reading my original post, I can see how someone would think that I was being a bit of a jerk. Maybe I was, especially with the rolling eyes which I have since removed. I've seen interviews with Travis Pastrana at the X games and you're right. He's seems like a nice guy, almost humble. Travis' getting involved in rally is a good thing. It should increase interest with a younger American crowd. Who knows, maybe some day we'll see the same champions format at the X games or even an entire U.S. heads-up series.
Tom, his roll was awesome. I think the organizers were afraid that he would roll another car if they let him continue. I think they made a mistake. It would have been more exciting to see him continue.

Hey Vern, I didn't think you were being a jerk- I felt sure Travis would smack the hell out my friend's car (and I told him so :D ). But he surprised me (and most of the peanut gallery on specialstage.com) with a smart run, and I couldn't have been happier to be wrong.

It seems that it was clearly spelled out in the rules and the organizers really didn't have a choice but to disqualify him.

If they were awarding points for style though...

I watched Travis race Supercross for a few years. He always rode the edge but crashed frequently and possibly ended his motorcycle career due to injuries. He does not know the word 'impossible' and probably has the best 'can do' attitude I've ever seen, and yet he remains very much grounded w/o a big ego. He'll be fun to watch but I suspect he'll crash a lot.
