I blame Bryan Settle ... damn him! Damn him to HEEEEEEELLLLLLL!!!!!

While staying over at his place when went to the Atlanta Motorsports Park open house thingy, I reluctantly tried Guitar Hero Metallica on his Xbox360... now, I've been VERY reluctant to give any credence to this mindless drivel of a "video game" wanna-be musician fad ever since I first heard about it...

But DAMMIT if it's not completely addictive, fun, and insanely frustrating!!!

So Best Buy Online has the Guitar Hero III bundle for $19.99, so I bought the damn thing. Jeezuss what have I gotten myself into?!?!

Any other current or former musicians out there killing brain cells with this thing? I need a support group!!

heh heh...welcome to the dark side!

I play Rock band 2 with my family, and nothing beats watching my 5-year old son and 4-year old daughter play drums and bass. My son actually scores near 90% on medium difficulty, which is pretty impressive IMO. My daughter likes to strike the "Stadium Rock" guitar poses which can be entertaining as well. The lovely wife channels her inner Gwen Stefani, and I'm not complaining about thst one bit!

As for me...well....let's just say I also have Guitar Hero III and the AC/DC expansion pack for RB2. Don't even get me started on the downloadable content!

Yup, it's just one step removed from air bands and singing in the shower, but it is a ton of fun. And it's cheap too!

So I'm not alone I guess then huh... cool...

Coming from playing bass, I find myself having to start out on the hard or expert levels simply because I'm wanting to play too many "notes" and using the harder level helps in that sense...

the hardest thing I'm dealing with ... and it sounds silly ... is I "lose my place" on the fret board! I mean, there are only 5 buttons for cryin out loud, and I'm constantly moving my hand too far, or being one-off from where I need to be LOL

But I gotta admit, it does offer similar highs and lows of actually learning and playing on a real instrument (even if the physicality of it barely mimics the real thing.)

Oddly enough, I feel like I did MUCH better when I was playing the bass parts on the Metallica version at Settle's place... mainly cause I knew the songs... which impressed me because I really wasn't expecting that to make much of a difference with this type of game.

OK... so what's the difference between "Rock Band" and "Guitar Hero World Tour Band Kit"?

I just got Rock band for wii for my wifes bday. It is making us feel rather old as we are just now figuring out how to work everything, I need a 10 yr old tutor. Does is cost to download songs and how do you do it. I need to have something I have heard before, not alot of 70's stuff with it.

You should have gotten the GH World Tour band kit ... that's what I ended up going with (yeah, I've got it bad) and there are actually quite a few 70's era songs (more than a few now that I think about it.)

Cheap Trick, Foghat, Skynard, Blondie, Steely Dan, The Eagles ... to name the few I can remember off the top of my head

a lot of folks agree that the guitars in guitar hero kit are much better than the rockband ones. well mainly if you started out with GH and then bought RB.

the GH guitars click. the RB ones dont (unless the RB2 ones do)

but as far as differences...

Ive got rock band for PS3 and also guitar hero (different versions) that came with 2 guitars.

so i play the combo of rockband with the guitar hero guitars (and i think only the world tour guitars sync up to rockback).

its nice. no one really does the singing now since i have 2 guitars and drums.
