Following up on the CATV vs. mini-dish issue -
First, thanks for all the great information, it was very helpful.
In short, I decided to stick with TWC for one reason alone - price. Even with the new customer discounts, the mini-dish services (both DirecTV and DISH) were a good more more expensive when comparing the total price for the 2-year contract period (required for the discounts).
The main reason TWC was cheaper is because I have four TVs - two HDTVs and two SDTVs. The monthly adder for multiple TVs on the mini-dish plans adds up, especially over the 2 year contract period.
Also, I can't do without SPEED Channel (which requires a programming upgrade with both DISH and DirecTV, resulting in additional cost). And my kids don't care about the additional channels they'd get with mini-dish programming. The channels picked up by the kids' TVs (via built-in tuner) include everything they want, and those channels come in SD (4:3) whether I get them from TWC or either of the mini-dish companies.
BTW, doing the channels auto-search, as several of you suggested, on my son's HDTV picked up a lot of channels I had no idea even existed from TWC, and many are in HD format. Thanks again!
