Good luck!

I will be there on Sunday. It will be the first race for my two kids. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. Good luck Sam! :)

Thanks for the reminder. Hope I can make it up there sometime this weekend.

BTW - saw this on the VIR website tonight:

"Stock Car Testing Open to Fans June 3rd
VIR is excited to announce that its gates will be open to all fans tomorrow, June 3, for a special stock car test day. At this time, twelve NASCAR teams plan to test on track between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM. Fans will be admitted to the track free of charge during those hours"

If anyone is curious here is a link to the schedule...

http://www.svra.com/SVRA/SVRAHome.nsf/a ... penElement

Related question...

They are having parade/touring laps on Sunday. Is there any trick to doing that? I have done parade laps at an HPDE before, but not at a regular race. Do I just look for a queue of street cars near the pit entrance a few minutes prior to the scheduled start?

Richard,

I did the parade laps a couple of years ago to get my Dad out on the track. There was a nominal fee (donation to some charity IIRC) and you basically queued up by one of the gates. The trick is to back WAY off of the car in front and gas it through the corners. Just don't be an ass and try to get all racy with it.

The laps I did was during a Grand Am weekend so the procedure might be a little different with the SVRA.

Todd

What did they accept as payment. Green stuff only?

I just noticed on the SVRA site that they list tickets for track touring/parade laps. I tried to call SVRA, but there voice mail says they are already onsite at VIR. I emailed to find out if I can buy tickets at VIR. Hopefully they are checking email. Parade lap for a single day is $35.

I think the spousal unit and I will be up there Sunday also. I feel like a little kid at these events, seeing cars I say in old magazines and books when I was young!

Have you been letting your boss pay you in Chatham County Plenties again? Those are not accepted as legal tender VIR. (I think it's because Virginia is a commonwealth.)

Had a great time. It's was my son's first time at a race and he was really excited and had a good time. We ran into Todd and his dad. Lots of cool cars (old and new). Someone had a Superlite Coupe there...

http://www.superlitecars.com/coupe_spec.html

I was impressed. It looked much nicer in person than in the photos. It also looked small. Not sure if I could fit in one or not, but would love to have one!

Yep, had a great time as expected. As Richard said, we ran into him and his son as well as Mitch Moore. Didn't see Cline there or any other Tarheelers.

I saw Sam Blanton on the pace lap in his Morris Minor 1000 but don't think I got a photo. But I didn't see him during the race, what happened Sam??

With Morgan being the featured marque, I fully expected to see John Sheelly's hair walking around somewhere.

I got ALOT of cool photos and will be compiling the best into a Photobucket slideshow over the next couple of days. I'll post the link here when I get them together.

I think the Dodge Challenger former IMSA car in the "Historic Stock Car" race was my favorite. It looked great, sounded great and the builder (as in the actual guy who built the car new) was fun to talk to.

I was there, but didn't see anybody. Always great time at that event. What the heck was that Mcbearen thing, anybody see it in the pits? I had to use all my will power not to ask about the Etype coupe that had a sign on it "please make me an offer". Wife was getting sunburnt so we left before the last race, wish I would have stayed and scene the old stockers.

It's an awful homebuilt car.
