Have they shown up for a race this year?? They already are a shell of their former self.

It would suck not having Ferrari in F1 next year but this sounds like they are just trying to threaten Uncle Bernie into getting rid of the budget cap.

Mark my words, they will race in F1 next year.

maybe the Ferrari teams will reform ala Brawn and win with Mercedes motors. :P Honda must feel like such schmucks.

I think it is 90% posturing right now. But I hope it does happen in that it might break the stranglehold that Max Mosley and Bernie Ecclestone has on F1 right now. Who will blink first!?

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

hmmm MLB w/o the yankees.....

If they walk, they will probably take Red Bull, Renault, and Williams with them and maybe McLaren too. don't really blame them if the proposal is for a spec engine, they will turn F1 into NASCRAP with the F1COT

If a number of teams walk and Ferrari is one of them, then I doubt the others will stay. I would love to see a breakaway series.

Rob, in case you haven't been reading up on it, the problem is not the spec engine. It's that there would be a two tier rules system. In one system, you have more restrictive rules, but you can spend more money(basically using the 2009 rule as the starting point). The other system is that you have less restrictive rules (such as maybe more aero devices?), but a smaller budget cap. Both sets of rules would be in place at the same time. I assume each team would decide at the start of the season which set they will play by.

So the question is... Which one do you think would work well for you? It may turn out that one set of rules really works better than the other and nobody will know until the season has started. So while I am all for shaking things up (I am a fan of what is going on with Brawn this year), it may result in crazy and unpredictable results. I strongly think there should be one set of rules and one budget cap (assuming they do a budget cap). I am also OK with the cap being very low to entice more new teams.

I have been reading and yes the two tiered system is the main issue, but there is also the side issue with the spec issue that they are bitching about. It gave me another reason to poke NASCRAP

If all those teams bolt they may go to the LeMans/ALMS series and bring the technology and $$ with them. That would actually be cool and bring back the old days when the manufacturers were fighting out that series.

I would be interesting to see them goto LMS/ALMS. The interesting point being that those two series are run by ACO and not FIA. So it might be a safe home. However, it probably would be a step down for Ferrari. I wonder if they (mostly Ferrari) might dabble with LMS/ALMS just as a way to let FIA know they are not the only game in town.

There are Ferrari privateers that already participate in ALMS.

I could definitely see them back in LMS ... I mean, there aren't many more historic or classic battles than the Ferrari / GT40 / Porsche battles. An LMP1 Ferrari would be one sexy-ass car!

I would love to see them back in lemans too. That was my favorite area, don't remember when it was actually going on but loved to watch all the old races and old magazines about it.

I think I even heard there is work on getting a Ferrari engine approved for Grand-Am DP. Still a Ferrari LMP P1 would be great to see. And there were rumors that it might happen even before the threatened pullout of F1 in 2010. I think the last Ferrari prototype sportscar was the F333 SP which was a Dallara chassis commissioned by Ferrari using a detuned Ferrari F1 engine.
