So, I'm about to dump XM because they refuse to bring back 2 of my favorite channels since the merger. I'm about 1/2 done ripping my CD's and I'm amazed I already have about 12 gig of music files. I bought my son's 4gig IPod and the iTunes software is easy enough to use.

Now, I have 300+ albums (yeah, vinyl for you young whippersnappers) that I need to go digital. My old turn table is on it's way back home and I have the connectors to the PC. What I need is some advice for software. Problem w/ albums is how to break the songs up and enter the data. I figure I'll have to manually enter the info, but is there any software that assumes the pause to be a song break?

Any advice you have is appreciated!!

I too recently completed this hateful project. Between my wife and I we came up with 64GB total of music.

One option, although I don't know if it's the best option, is something like Audicity. Windows, and I'm sure other OS's have the ability to record what's coming in on a input channel. After recording the entire Album into something like a .wav that's were you could use Audicity to copy and paste selected portions into tracks. I will note a disclaimer that I have never worked with a file as big as a whole album, but on smaller stuff it is rather easy.

Beyond Jazz and Fine tuning. Beyond Jazz had some great acid jazz that Watercolors never plays. On XM, there was 3 jazz channels, now after the merger, only 2 that count. Fine Tuning was non-genre, so you got hit w/ everything. The randomness of that channel made it fun. Now after the merger, there are no random play channels.

Last I counted, there were almost 30 R&R channels of some sort. They are doing a great dis-service to niche listeners.

Wow, that looks great. Have you used it? Looks like it's worth the $25 to use it.

I use Roxio easy media creator to convert my albums. It makes mistakes importing track information because it is looking at CDs and not vinyl albums for the information.

There are actually some USB record players as well that IIRC start around $125 or so.

Have a look at Audacity before you spend money:

I'm coming over to party with you guys. How many albums do you think that would be?

I estimated at about 70MB per album it would be around 900 or so.
