I don't believe that we've ever awarded a Heel of the Month to a team before, but it was surely deserved this past month. When a group of Tarheelers, including former officers and key volunteers goes out there to race something so ludicrously silly that it becomes awesome AND WINS they deserve the respect of the club.

Congratulations guys, you deserved it!

:tear: I love you guys!!!

It's my first HOTM, and I'm proud to share it with the rest of the team. Since I'm on the "arrive and drive" plan this year, it was easy for me, but the rest of the guys put in a ton of hours and effort. Put your hands together for the team:
Bernie Baake (Captain)
Vincent Keene
Walter Houston
Kendt Eklund
Steve Remchak
Chris Brown (Crew Chief)
and me 8)

Much thanks to our sponsors:
- Pets Companion Inn / Gwen and Bernie Baake ('08 and '09)
- Apex Contract Carpets / Steve Remchak ('08 and '09)
- Cline Hall Agency / Cline Hall ('08 and '09 )
- Asphalt Ventures / Stacy King ('08 and '09 )
- Performance Chassis / Mark Cooper ('08 and '09 )
- Bollerjack's / Lee Bollerjack ('08 )
- Vocus / Bill Wagner ('08 )

The spinning legs got a little out of alignment on day 2, and we noticed the head kind of bobbing around at higher speed. I'm guessing the the legs were hitting the head a bit.

During Bernie's session, the head of the dog came off rather spectacularly on the straight. He thought something catastrophic had happened, but the car was still running fine, so he kept on pedaling it.

Walter picked up the head from the infield after the race ended. That poor plexiglass dog gave it's life for this event. Pour out the first sip of your 40oz tonight in honor of the dog...

That's dedication from the pup. 8)

So do all the participant sign a waiver to willingly sacrifice their car to the jaws of death if they are voted upon? I guess this seems like a good way to keep everyone honest as far the cost of the car and that they aren't driving kamakazi it seems.

There is no "waiver" per se, but it's stated clearly, multiple times in the rules that any car may be crushed. If you are chosen, they give you about 1/2 hr to strip stuff off the car, so you can keep your seat/harnesses and other stuff that has a legit value. You should have seen all the stuff that the Mustang guys stripped off of the car that was crushed this time.
