So Vincent's camera got me thinking about how I'm going to mount my new pimpy camera for the upcoming season.

I don't have the patience that Vincent has (no, I can't believe I said that either) to build my own, so that is out.

I know about IO Port but at $109, they are a little spendy.

Keep in mind that the Miata doesn't have head rest rods to mount one like Spratte (?) had and that I do have the roll bar so something that mounts there is fine.

In case you are wondering, yes the camera came with a suction cup type mount, and I will test that out for the company, but I don't hold high hopes for it being able to reduce vibration very much.

What do you suggest?

We used it with the a new Aiptek HD Camcorder and the video was excellent. - AB

Interesting, that looks like two of the three pieces that came with my mount. The third being an extention that would raise the camera about 6 or 7 inches off the base.

I'll have to look when I get home to be sure, but I wonder if I could just leave the riser out and mount the camera that way.

Here's the one that Aaron posted:

Here's the one that came with the camera

I'm going to try and take the middle section off to see if it works like the first one.

Maybe an ITR in DS.

buy:

1) Exhaust clam that is the right diameter for your roll bar.
2) A bolt with the right thread pitch for the mount on the camera.
3) Two nuts that fit the bolt.

Drill a hole in middle of the stamped steel part of the exhaust clamp. Put the bolt through the hole and fasten it using nut #1.

Thread nut number 2 to the bolt.

Screw the camera onto the bolt and use nut #2 as a jam nut to keep the camera pointed where you want it.

Attach the whole thing to the roll bar.

This ought to set you back about $4. Probably free if you have an exhaust clamp around (assuming you own a drill and drill bits).

Todd, Jeff just posted a bunch of things from his Miata. I think one of them was a camera mount. Not sure if it would work or not, but in case you missed it, there it is.

Thanks for ideas guys. Turns out that the mount that Aaron posted is the same as the one I have just without the riser. I am going to give it a try. The only problem I have is that I would have to mount it on the trunk lid and shoot through the roll bar. That is the reason I was thinking about the IO Port mount.

Cos, I saw Jeff's post and I think I'm going to buy it also. Worse case scenario is I try it out, it doesnt' work any better than the mount that came with the camera and I resell it for what I paid. Not a bad deal in my book.

I am looking into this kit. Very sturdy.

Todd, since your car doesn't work, you're welcome to borrow my tripod. That should take all the in-car video you need.

Absolutely, but if i get this mount, wouldn't I have to get the car aligned and cornerweighted to counter for the camera mount?
