If we have any Beatles fans in the house, you should pay your money and go see Rain, the Beatles tribute band playing at the progress energy performing arts center. I went last night and had a great time. The voices aren’t the same but close. The music is excellent! Played a lot of their more popular songs and good audience participation. Hey Jude was the final song in the encore and everyone was on their feet singing all of the na-na-na at the end of the song. Other songs were imagine, sgt peppers, revolution and much more.

It’s worth the money to go see them. Ends this weekend, so get your tickets now.

We've got Broadway Series South season tickets and find them well worth the money (especially since that will get you the best seats). Sure, there's an occasional show that sort of blows, but I'd say 90% are well worth the money. Our Rain tickets are for tonight and I'm really looking forward to it.

Another good one is the Billy Joel one, Movin' Out. It's not a play at all in that there are no spoken lines, but there is definitely a good story told and the music is awesome.

Rodney,

Thanks for the heads up! My wife and I went last night, and we really enjoyed the show! They did a good job replicating the songs for the most part, and the lead guitar player was excellent (especially on My Guitar Gently Weeps and The End where he was awesome). There were a few sound mixing issues at times though but nothing too bad.

The drummer did a great job playing most songs as they were recorded without embellishment which I found enjoyable. I was in 1st grade in 1964 when I started taking drum lessons, and for many years I used to practice and play to most Beatles songs over and over until I got it just right. Hence I was particularly sensitive to the drumer's performance last night. :) He hit the drum solo for Carry that Weight/The End just perfect.

Time to go play some drums I guess. :)

Thanks again,
Chuck

We were there last night, too, and I agree completely. Well worth the money. I did not think it was quite as entertaining overall as the Billy Joel one, Movin' Out, but it was very good nonetheless. But then again I grew up a little more in the Billy Joel era than the Beatles, too.

I'd guess these guys were more true to the production versions of the songs than the Beatles were when they played them live back in the day, too.

Definitely. However, I did see Paul perform a number of Beatles songs back in 1976 on the Wings tour, and they were great (but most were his solo-type songs, i.e. Blackbird, Yesterday). Given the state of amplifiers/speakers in the mid 1960s, I don't think any Beatles concert was probably worth seeing at the time (unless you enjoy screaming, fainting girls). :)

Bumping this 6½ year old thread -- My wife and I went to DPAC last night for the Rain concert again. It's changed a lot since the first show referenced in this thread with less of the early Beatles material and more of the later. Overall, I'd say this one was a bit of a disappointment compared to the prior show as the sound system had annoying issues such as the bass drum mike way overpowering the rest of the drums not to mention the band overall. The only good thing about it was that at least it was clean, undistorted bass, but still way too much. Also during some songs there was a muddiness to the sound which made it tough to follow the lead guitar when you would have really liked to. Finally, the drummer had issues coming in on the beat a few times which I think was just laziness since he seemed to be very competent (i.e. he was doing one-hand high bpm drum rolls, something my hand and brain won't allow, lol).

All that said, it was still very entertaining, and actually some of the later years songs were performed very well. Revolution sounded better than I've ever heard it played live anytime in the past, and The End was done well too as were all the songs from Abbey Road they played.

Part of the sound issue could have been our seats which were about 10 rows back from the front but all the way on one side.

They're playing again at DPAC tonight. It's definitely a fun show.
