Born in Rocky Mount....near the airport, while it was still an Army training facility.
Raised all over the state until age 9.
Then on to Winston-Salem (home of the cigarettes of the same name).
Lived in Raleigh for a couple of years after high school and got another dose of education.
Joined the Navy, saw the world, married a California girl and stayed on the left coast for 18 years.
Attended San Jose State, "How about those Spartans?"
Finally dragged my wife screaming and kicking back to the "Old North State".

Here's to the land of the long leaf pine,
a summer land where the sun doth shine.
Where the weak grow strong and the strong grow great.
Here's to down home, The Old North State.

The above was required memorization when I was in grade school. We considered ourselves northern by South Carolina standards.

And no, I would never consider a move north of the Mason-Dixon Line.

True Yankee(s) here, I was born in NJ (lived in Belleville and Clark). My dad was a corporate relo, moving the family to Raleigh in '78. I moved here in '82 after grad school to work in Raleigh. I've lived here ever since except for a few 6 month corporate assignments in Tampa and Houston.
Joan was born on Long Island and spent her early days in Silver Spring, Maryland and high school years in Princeton, NJ. College for her was in Pa. (undergrad - Bloomsburg and grad school - Pitt) and her first job brought her to Durham, NC to teach deaf ed.
True story - Ms. Joan's fingerprints are on the surface of the moon. Any guesses how that could be?

Well, coming from across the pond I found that I couldn't even vote. What good is this green card anyway?

Born in Portsmouth, England. Moved to NYC in 81. Spent 9 long years tearing myself away. Moved to Raleigh, sight-unseen, in 90. Been here ever since. Call it home.

Born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. :) I even went to school at NC State. I've never lived anywhere other than Raleigh or a suburb.

The laws of natural selection directed us toward the ultimate redneckness:

BOSTON (educated to conquer the world) > Ft. Liquordale, FL (drugged to ignore the world) > Cay-ree, NC (Pretentious Yuppies in senseless SUV's assault the world) > Fuquay-Varina, NC (Smif-field Bar-B-Que and feelin' like a Southerner). Think we'll stay here...

Born and raised in the land of perpetual ice and snow (it seems that way anyhow) Buffalo NY
Uncle Sam moved me to AL for two years where I learned to love the south.
Returned to freeze my butt to finish my MS and get smart enough to move to NC in 79. Consider myself a born again Southerner!

Donna on the otherhand is a native, born and raised in Chapel Hill.

Born in Fresno, CA which is south of the latitude of the Mason-Dixon line.
Raised in the Northeast (NY and NJ) and the Northwest (WA). Spent army time in CA, NJ, MA, MD, and South Vietnam. Finished school in WA and moved to CA. Transferred to NC (RTP) in 1986 and love it. Kelly is from WY, ID, CA, WA, CA (again) before we moved to NC in 1986.

We both hope to be able to stay here. Depends on employment, etc.
