Congrats gentlemen. That looks like a lot of fun.

So like how far was one lap?

I'm kinda curious since I think one day I wouldn't mind doing one of these races at some point in time. Of course based on my past experiences of riding in the woods I give myself about 30% chance of hitting a tree and 90% chance of falling off at least once.

Shawn

Each lap for this event was about 6 miles. The Tarwheel event had a longer lap setup for the expert riders.

Hey if you're half serious about doing one of these in the next few years, let me know when, I'll join ya. Unfortunately I only seem to get out riding a few times a year, it would be good to have a real reason to go riding for training.

Mike,

I've been thinking about this and I've decided I'm more than 1/2 serious about doing it. When they put up a schedule for 2009 lets circle one of the dates on the calendar and shoot for it. I'd even be up for some training rides/practice at some point in time.

Bump.

I might give this race a shot this year. Anyone have an old course map? Even better, garmin data.

I couldn't find anythign more recent, but a map of the '06 race is at the following URL, near the bottom of the page (and the course route has stayed essentially the same each year with only minor changes resulting from trails being re-routed over time):

If you haven't already, I think you'll have to register to access the trianglemtb.com forums. Very worthwhile site for area MTB'ers - it's my main source of info when I'm wondering which local trails are open.

Also, haven't used this one in awhile, but it may be what you're looking for:

Thanks Keith. I think I can wing it and get an estimate for things. Now I need to make sure I can ride two laps and not just one :)

Here's the image of the course:

That really stinks that it's the same day as Danville but I think I'm going to do this. I'll probably have to hit the Dixie event next Sunday as cure for the monthly autocross itch.

If anyone's never done a mountain bike race, this is the one to start out with! Crabtree is really a fun course that's really flat and has decent areas to pass. Should be a great time!

I will probably be at the autocross. I have not been able to ride much lately and am too out of shape.

That might make two of us... I'm on the fence. Two laps it would be a no brainer but the third will hurt.

I just got a new bike, Gary Fisher Cobia, 29er. I've only been on it for 3 rides, but it is faster than my 1995 Bianchi rigid everything.

I am on the fence about the race, I'm not really in shape for it just yet. I could likely do the two laps for the beginner category, but I won't be fast. I feel like I'll probably be about 20 minutes off the leaders pace. That's kind of embarrassing.

We'll see. I've got more excuses to stay home than to go. There will be a pre-ride later this week. I might go to that just to get an idea of the full course, and see if I can keep up then.
