I've actually got a fair amount of seat time in a BSP M3 and a CSP NA Miata. The S2000 makes me giggle a lot more than either of them did.

At the risk of picking on anyone's particular car, I'm not sure how you could compare an AS S2000 to a well prepped CSP car. Now, maybe you weren't, but that's the way I read the above. Now we're obviously into my somewhat biased territory, but I've driven a whole lot of cars, and there's very little that will make you giggle on an autocross course like a well prepped CSP car. I think the only stock class that might compare is SS (maybe), and only ASP would have a higher giggle factor for me, though I suppose I can see BSP doing it, too.

But hey, maybe you get your giggle on by going a little slower.

Well, not in an autocross setting, but I'd say Bowie Jr's ITA Miata was a well prepped Miata. Different kettle of fish sure, but certainly not a slouch.

I like the S2000 better.

Another item for full disclosure - I'm not very good at the driving. It's all I can do to keep up with an AS S2000. Something like your Spyder project would probably make my head explode, I'd be slow, and angry with myself at the end of the day.

Phil needs an S2000 because it would get him both rear wheel drive, and back into a Honda, which I know he's wanted since he got rid of the ITR.

I'm just saying 150ish HP, sub 2000 pounds, good (and low) suspension, and really wide autocross-compound tires would make you giggle. I also think you'd find it easier to drive than you think...in fact, they might be easier to get close to "top guys" than an AS S2000 would be. Check that, I know they are. I'm not so good at the driving thing, either. :D

But that's obviously still not a great point for Phil since a good CSP car would take a good bit of development and ultimately cost as much as that S2000. Well, unless he's looking for a longer term project...that's the nice part about the Miata is you have a LOT of autocross progression options. Wanna stay really cheap? Stock or STS2. Wanna move past that and go pretty fast? CSP. Wanna go a little crazy? DP. Wanna go nuts? SM2 or XP.

I think someone brought up a great idea. I need to see if I can spend some time in one or more Miata's. I'll post in the autocross section to get this ball rolling.

Karl - I'd love an S2K, no doubt about it. Honda's have always been good to me, but Donnie was partially correct. Part of doing this would be to gain some cash.

Something several of you don't understand is that I only drive with THSCC with the exception of a few TRIAD events. I don't get much seat time, so I could drive a corrola on street tires and still have more to learn by the end of the year. I drove a stock 1st gen CRX for three years and had a blast. I'm not the least bit concerned that a miata would be fun to drive. Maybe not in teh league as the M3, but still fun.

Thanks for the opinions, see next month.

M3 or Miata?

You can have both power and handling - Supercharged Miata.
