I need to get more info before I jump in the deep end , but I really see this as something I would like to be involved with in about a year or two. Hopefully by the time I am ready, the event is still happening and going strong!

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

I'll admit, I am thinking of blowing off AX, track and RX in 09 to build a Lemons car.

It just looks like too much damn fun not to. I was supposed to be on the team with the dogs in the beginning but the kids made me think it wasn't such a great idea.

Really? That's putting all your eggs in one basket, what if your piece of crap craps out on the first lap? I must admit, it does look like fun.

Nah, what I don't want to do is join a team and then back out when I realize that I can't make it happen due to lack of $$$ or time. So I will probably talk to some of you guys who have done this offline to find out what it takes to make it happen.

Also the 914 is my #1 priority and it is probably a year away from completion.

So, join a team as a crew member and you can come help and see what the madness is about.

Les was our crew chief, and a really good one too. and he's got the bug for sure. If you want to experience wheel to wheel on the cheap, this IS the way ro do it.

Zero cost and no time involvement. I am in and ready to drive!! Sign me up!! How about I just show up at the event and climb in and go. This is an arrive and drive deal right! Do I get a refund if we don't win? ;)

Seriously I will talk to someone offline. As I don't think I would have time to invest next year, I think Kendt's idea of crewing at the event next year is a good one. I don't want to do this unless I can do my share and do it right.

What is the plans with the car(s) now that the event is over? Use them next year?

Can't speak for the Dogs, but based on the condition of their car at the end of the race, I would bet that they are going to find some sort of purpose for it.

As for our car, the Malt Liquor Tech 40 oz BMW Sponsored by Billy Dee Williams and Schlitz Malt Liquor is likely to make another Lemons appearance. We definitely have some work to do on her, probably a "new" engine since the current one was running so poorly at the end of the race, and I think it was almost out of oil too- so that can't be good. Also, it ran all day Saturday on 5 cyls due to a stuck open injector- so I imagine that the #6 cylinder is cranking out about 10 psi compression due to all the gasoline washing down that cylinder. The driveshaft is shot, and at least one of the rear wheel bearings made a terrible growling noise from the start of the race, and I think the diff and/or the CV joints in the rear axles are shot too. Oh, and the brakes are FUBAR'ed as well.

But, as they said about Steve Austin- we've got the technology....we can make it better than it was, better.....stronger.....faster....... duh duh duh.......duh duh duh duh duh duh................

;)

We're seriously considering campaigning a second car, the idea being that one car would be the "serious" car and one would be the "fun" car....... We have been talking strategy and have some ideas that would have saved us a ton of time in the pits and likely moved us up at least a couple of positions in the final standings- so it's worth a shot.

Our philosophy was to have fun and get everyone some seat time, but when we found ourselves in 2nd place on Saturday, we had to take it a little bit more seriously and start thinking up some sort of strategy (we honestly had none before that). It's gonna be hard to top this weekend, but we're willing to try.

Richard- sign on to the Lemons Yahoogroup and scan through some of the past messages there. Alot of those guys have been in your same position, and many of them have spelled out what running the race sost them- so that's useful info for anyone preparing a car, or thinking about it.

I'll be glad to give you a rundown of our teams expenses if you like, shoot me an email or PM. But we did it on the CHEAP and it was still not necessarily cheap.

Yep...Dieter will see another LeMons race. Bernie and Walter are going in to a UFC-style cage match to battle for the rights to buy the car from me :D

I need to talk to Jay Lamm and find out what the regulations are for selling a LeMons car so we do this the right way.

From the 24hoursoflemons.com FAQ:

WHAT IF I RAN THE CAR IN A PREVIOUS LeMONS?

Are you kidding? You'd actually resurrect that moldering pile of iron oxide? Well, it's your funeral—send us some post-race snaps and we'll assign a residual value between $0 and $499.

Thx Bret. Here's hoping for a low appraised value :-)
