That one I had a mechanic friend "inspect and replace" my odometer as the receipt read and it got knocked down to a improper/faulty equimpent charge.

I tried that when I was in high school (here in Wake County, late 80's) and the DA informed me that they COULD write me an additional ticket for improper/faulty equip. They made it pretty clear that it wasn't an out for speeding. Instead of dealing with both tickets, I just went for the PFJC.

Wow, this is all coming as quite a bit of sticker shock to me. I have won quite a few "Performance Awards" in VA. I think my best was 77 in a 45 (I was much younger and much more stupid) and the result was a trip to court, a nice talk with the judge, and a great eight hours in a drivers improvement course, with no speeding ticket on my record. Virginia seems to have a completely different system for suspension of diving privelages. I guess after reading all this I am going to have to slow down in NC, but here is my real question: In VA, you are pretty safe if you keep the speed within 9 mph of the limit, does the same hold true in NC?

I have always followed the same rule of thumb, but I am sure that is somewhat dependent on the mood of the officer (if he got his cruller that morning or not) and the time of the month (is his quota met?).

I have a friend that just got out of a speeding ticket in the area. He called a lawyer. Lawyer told to him to go to a shop and have his speedo declared miscalibrated. So, after he did that he gave that sheet to the lawyer. Lawyer charged him 250 and they dismissed the ticket. He also has the AAA gold package or whatever which covers 100$ of fees. So after all was said and done he was only out $150. The funny part is even though the miscalibrated speedo gets you out of the ticket they don't require you to fix it.

That is interesting. I got a ticket in Ohio on X-mas day 3 years ago. I contacted a friend that works for an insurance agency (not the agency I had my insurance at), and they told me they were pretty sure it wouldn't carry over to NC. I just paid the fine and never heard another thing about it. I don't remember exactly what it was, but I am thinking it was close to 15 over in a 55 or 65 zone.

Most states (including Ohio) now share traffic data amongst insurance companies. You may get lucky and not have it picked up immediately, but they can pick it up next year, year after, and then you are stuck. :furious:

I would try to get it reduced to 9 or below if possible

Wow I learn something on this forum everyday. I have AAA Gold and didn't realize that. I just checked their website and the fees are covered up to $150.

Ryan you have AAA Gold too right? Maybe you can put it to use on your recent "performance award(s)"?

Hey, I knew I should have been a member of this club a long time ago. My last ticket, two years ago last friday was a 82 in a 55. SP officer wasn't a happy camper giving me the ticket or afterwords when i drove in 1st just short of the redline for a few hundred yards. Ah, I sure do miss the ITR! Because I had gotten a ticket in each of the previous two years, I had no choice but PFJC. One more year to go and I'm free!!!

As far as tickets transfering, I'm not sure how that works because I also had tickets in GA, AL, and KY but when I moved here, none of them showed up. At first I thought NC just had cheap insurance rates, but it was due to the tickets not on my record. This is the first time since I've been driving that I don't have one speeding ticket each year (knocking on wood), I used to just accept that I was going to get one a year regardless of how careful I am.

That reminds me, I need to slow down. Good luck!

After a while the hardest part about "slowing down" (to between 5 and 10 over the freeway limit) is not getting run over. The second hardest part is knowing for a fact that you would be safer at 25 over than most of the bozo's that pass you are at 15 or 20 over.

Not all states share ticket info with the state the driver was licensed in. Many are not set up to report out of state infractions to insurance Co. either, probably because they really have no way to verify the validity of the other state's driver's info and would set themselves up for lawsuits if they got the info wrong.
I think Scott can verify that VA does not report out of state driver infractions.
