My Dad gave me an old '87 Schwinn World Sport over Thanksgiving break. Its an old 10 speed bike.. actually you can see it
here.
Its a 4130 Chromoly steel frame, double butted tubes, lugged, pretty nice. I stripped the parts off and took it to Whitney's for a sandblast. it turned out great. Some rustoleum pro metal primer, base, and clear and it came out pretty good. Def not as durable as a powder coat, but we'll see how it goes and how i like the bike.
I found some deals on random new, used, and old parts i had around and built her up. Its using a single 40t ring w/ a 11-32t mountain cassette and mountain rear deraileur. I'm using the original friction stem shifter... a bit strange, but it works quite well.

It rides really nice. My main plan for it is to commute to work on and to ride Umstead on for cardio, etc. I normally ride a mountain bike on Umstead and i must say, this is fun. Much faster and a much more "sporty" cockpit and feel. Very fun, albeit a little hairy in places.
So yep, this is my budget commuter/cross/road bike.
