I'll take this opportunity to remind you riders out there that the DMV loves to accidentally drop your M endorsement when you renew your license. The last two times I've done mine I've almost walked out without realizing it was gone only to have to go get it printed again. Apparently they have to keep checking a box every time or something. *shrug*

You have to pay the extra $5 to keep it on there, I had to remind the lady the last time that I renewed as well.

That's funny you mention this since I just had the pleasure of visiting the DMV today. The guy renewing my license asked me if I wanted my motorcycle endorsement and I must have given him a puzzled look 'cause he looked back at the screen and then said: "Oh, you let that lapse the last time you renewed. Never mind."

I told him that it got left off the last time I renewed (and I even paid the fee!) and I didn't notice it until I was long gone from the DMV. I didn't bother going back since I didn't have a bike at the time but of course the guy wouldn't let me have it back without retaking all the tests including the riding test this time.

I don't plan on getting another bike any time soon but it is still somewhat aggravating...

One more recomendation to take a course, if you have never ridden before or had a M endorcement. It will give tons of info and put you well ahead of the curve.

As for the NCDMV when I got my VA liscene transferred over to NC they dropped my M endorsement. And when I went in to get the M here in good ole NC they made me take the whole written test and only gave me a 'learners' permit.

And Bret, if nothing else gas prices should make riding look good again nowadays

I just bought Dustin's old Honda and it's currently getting new tires and a once over by a bike mechanic. I've also checked into the safety course and was looking at wake tech. The earliest opening they have right now is the 1st weekend in Oct. Filling up fast!!

Ray Price Harley-Davidson is easier to get into, but it does cost more.

Drive an hour east to Smithfield (to whatever-that-county-is Community College) and there's likely a shorter wait - Malia and I got in a couple months earlier than waiting for Wake CCC that way.

I took the MSF class over at Durham Tech. If the Wake Tech class is on the main campus, the Durham Tech site is probably easier to get to from North Raleigh. Plus it was a lot easier to schedule.

I did one at the Alamance County Community College, which I don't recall being that hard to get into. It's right off I-40, too, so it might be a long drive for some, but it's an easy one.
