OK, I'm currently shopping for a new car. Well, not a "new" car but a "new-to-me" car. Does anybody have any other suggestions for places to look other than the usual stuff? I figure this has to help others as well if we can consolidate a list of places to search.

My usual places:

ebay.com
autotrader.com
cars.com
craigslist (various cities)
carolinahondas.com (don't laugh!)
honda-tech.com (flaky but sometimes useful and definitely a high turnover rate, almost too high!)

Any major places I'm missing? I know there are plenty of marque-specific forums I'm not listing but I'm looking for stuff that is fairly general or has a decently high rate of turnover. Or am I hitting all the major spots?

Also, does anybody know of a way to search multiple cities/regions at the same time through craigslist? I thought I saw a way to do that one time a while back but I can't seem to find it again. That would be *extremely* useful 'cause it sure is a pain to navigate through all the major areas.

Thanks,

Jim

Craigslist frowns on multi-city searching. There have been several tools on the internet for it but I believe that cl shuts them down. The few I tried to find were offline. Cl says "We are a local classified source, not nationwide". I think they are trying to get away from the internet-scammer / remote payment problems that plague ebay.

That said, I have had a lot of luck doing google searches like this:

m3 sedan site:craigslist.org

Then click on advanced and change to "pages seen in last month" or whatever timeperiod you want. Problem I have had is that 75% of the postings are from the west coast. You can add "-LA -CA -WA" to the search string to eliminate many of those.

Thanks Ryan, I'll definitely give that a whirl to see what comes up.

Mr. Whitney, your google-foo is strong! :D I've done that searching for other stuff and I don't know why I didn't think of that when shopping for stuff.

Thanks again!

Jim

Jim, what is it that you're looking for? I thought it was an E30 318, which leaves me scratching my head at carolinahondas.com and honda-tech...

It depends on what day of the week it is! I do have something very specific in mind at the moment but I'm not letting that cat out of the bag until it shows up in my driveway and/or an event at this point.

Besides, considering how many times I've changed my mind in the past month, I don't want you guys thinking I'm a flake or something.

:)

I'm just always looking for a great deal on something. I haven't actually tried pursuing anything on honda-tech yet due to the inherent flakiness but I think you'd be surprised what shows up on carolinahondas.com from time to time. And that stuff is usually close enough to go take a quick peek at if the price is right. And one can never have too many lawn ornaments, er, cars...

i too am looking. don't get me wrong, i love the bmw but it's not my ideal autocross car...i want to get back to having two cars as well...one to race and one to daily drive. i've narrowed the autocross/track car field to an e30 or another miata (it'd be great to find one already built).

Not yet and I'm not sure at the moment what is going on. I noticed he sold his R-package Miata so I have a funny feeling something may be up (again). I'm supposed to talk to him this week to find out for sure.

Honestly, I'm toying with the idea of doing something completely different next year no matter what. Having a known quantity is great and all but I think I might have more fun developing an unknown quantity (relatively speaking) even if it winds up sucking. Speaking of sucking, I'll always have the CRX to fall back on. :D

And David, I still hate you!
