So does the one year at Renault, Alonso to Ferrari in 2009 rumor hold any water? Can anyone see any team besides Renault putting up with Alonso?
The Speed commentators mentioned it during the Chinese GP (what a race! The FIA couldn't have engineered a more interesting final round).

I could make up some new rumors...

* Ferrari and McLaren do a deal. Kimi and Fernando swap seats.

* Fernando goes to Renault. McLaren buys out Nico from Williams. Williams gets Ralf from Toyota but at a steep discount (Williams continues to be a sort of Toyota Junior team). Williams has cash in hand from Nico exchange and buys out Sutil from Spyker.

Frankly at this point where can Fernando go if he expects to stay with a top team? Stay at McLaren? Renault (which really isn't a top team anymore).

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

He could sign with Richard Childress Racing. F1 is more of a feeder series for NASCAR than the Craftsman Trucks are these days.

Dont laugh, some of the NASCRAP people are drinking this Koolaide. I heard almost those same exact words from Clair B Lang's mouth on her radio show.

Fernando to Renault next year. Either he stays or goes to Ferrari. Massa's contract is paid off. I like the Niko to McLaren idea that holds water. I think Ralf is stuck with the lower eschelon teams, I don't even think Williams would want him at a discount

Briatore has essentially said that Alonso has a seat at Renault if he wants it. I don't see him going anywhere else. He'll get his preferential treatment in spades there.

McLaren could do worse than to pick up Fisichella on a one-year contract -- what they need is some experience to back up Hamilton. Coulthard or Button would be better, but neither of those are going anywhere and DC has already done his time in the team. (And if I'd been unceremoniously ditched for what turned out to be an arrogant seat-waster, I'd think twice about going back there.)

As for Ralf, after many years of being the most overpaid driver in F1, he can afford to buy a seat wherever there's one for sale. I just hope it's in ARCA, that boy deserves the crap shocked out of his self-image. More likely that he'll take up DTM, where he can find an adulating audience to preserve his idea of his importance.

If I ran an F1 team, I'd be looking hard at Scott Speed. First, for exactly the same reasons that got him fired -- he cares enough to speak his mind and won't take any BS in reply. Second, because I think he's good. Everyone ooohed and aaahed about Vettel, but that was in a BMW -- in a STR the best you can say is he's faster than Liuzzi, and not I think by as much or in as versatile a way as Speed. He'd be a bargain at the price.

Good news

Those 2 make a good combination.

Alonso can go to hades for all I care. Or even better, make him drive for Spyker. Pretty much the same thing.

Wait a couple of years and he'll be JPMs team mate going fast and turning left

Agreed - amazing that Hamilton saved his rookie mistakes for the last 2 races of the season! He kept making a big deal about not thinking about the championship and just going and running each race - something tells me he'll be doing alot more thinking about the championship next year.

I hope the Ferrari/McLaren battle rolls on to next season, and another team like BMW well and truly joins the party at the top.

I'm also hoping the FIA drops the stupid identical ECU plan for next year - a joint project with Microsoft??? I can hear the post race interviews now:
'I don't know, the car just locked up'

I thinks thats just typical sports interview blabber. You can't convince me that ANY driver in contention is not feeling the pressure of a championship.

I think its funny that for so long it seemed he could do no wrong. While Alonso was catching deserved heat for his antics, Hamilton was not the perfect media darling he was made to be. He seems like a good guy though, just not angel he's come across as.

Poor Massa. He wanted that win, but kudos to him for putting the team first. Maybe one day Kimi will return the favor.

Today deserves some Alonso vs Hamilton reflection:

No so fast! The hubbub over post-race fuel temps in Rosberg, Kubica and Heidfeld's cars might still throw the championship to Hamilton.
