With the introduction of the new V8 powered RWD Genesis sedan, Hyundai will finally have a car that could rival the low-cost but powerful saloons that seem to remain the domain of the US carmakers. To give its new ‘Tau’ V8 a fighting chance, Hyundai is rumored to be setting the 4.6L engine’s output at 380hp (283kW).
According to a recent post on the
HyundaiExchange forums, Hyundai’s R&D Chief Hyun-Soon Lee revealed to company officials that the V8 engine would output the 380hp figure in its new RWD sedan, which is due for release towards the end of the year.
In addition to the new V8, Hyundai will eventually offer a new diesel mill as well as a possible hydrogen fuel-cell powerplant. Researchers at Hyundai are currently developing the new powertrains, however, the carmaker’s boss Dong Jin Kim recently revealed that non-petrol models won’t be exported to key markets such as the US until 2010 at the earliest.
