Interesting. I don't have much of an opinion yet. Have they spelled out what the new evidence is yet?

What are some good free (non subscription) F1 news sources? Wes links to two above. I usually use this one...

Any recommendations?

www.grandprix.com is usually useful. Seems "crashed" at the moment. I wonder why?

The McLaren Mercedes team has been docked all of their points in the constructors' championship for their role in the spying affair on rivals Ferrari, the FIA announced today.

The news means that Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso are still leading the drivers' championship from their Ferrari rivals.

However, the team has also been hit with a 100 million (US) dollar fine and will have their 2008 challenger, the MP4-23, under observation ahead of next season to ensure that intellectual property rights belonging to Ferrari are not implemented.

McLaren Mercedes led the constructors' championship with 166 points, 23 ahead of Ferrari prior to the announcement. The loss of points will also bring a financial penalty to the team in the longer-term.

Crying baby Ferrari finally got what they wanted from mother FIA, a world championship......
It's strange that the " intellectual property " is working better on the McLaren than the Ferrari.......

I was not a Ferrari fan even less now.

? x2 - with Hamilton and Alonso cut loose to battle for the drivers' championship with no concern over the constructors' points, and both with something to prove, things could get very exciting.

I'm sure it will get real intersting in as much as Alonso was the one who blew the whistle on McLaren.

Is there any real evidence of this? I know the "new evidence" that blew the whole thing up was email between Alonso and the test driver, and apparently between Coughlin and Stepney as well, but did Alonso provide it?
The team dynamics (Alonso very cold towards RD and the crew - note that he didn't acknowledge them with a close drive-by of the pits at Monza), and RD's seeming to make a huge extra effort to be nice to Alonso have me wondering. Is Alonso going to take some moral high-ground stand and say McLaren are rotten to the core, and try for a ride elsewhere, or is he just using all the crap as leverage to re-assert himself as #1 driver in the team?

As the wheel turns...

Indirectly though right? I read that he threatened Ron Dennis with whatever info he had, so Ron then went himself to the FIA preemptively, which obviously has basically back-fired.

Is it a coincidence that the only member of the WMSC that represents the constructors is Jean Todt?
