I would say a 17%+ decrease year on year is quite "phenomenal" August by the numbers was a good month, considering it was only down 14%

Even the Skys are down, but only 3% year on year. Good find Dick. - AB

FYI

This site typically has the news releases from all the auto companies which have the sales figures.

http://www.theautochannel.com/

Typically on the first or second business day of the month.

Scroll down to the "Previous Articles" link on the page I linked to or follow this link: http://www.theautochannel.com/news/Head ... otive.html

FYI Mustang sales are down also . . . only 99K this year to date.

Those are DELIVERY figures for AUG. again VERY misleading! The 07 Solstice production stopped in April and nearly all were delivered to the dealers by end of June. 08 shipments didn't START until last week of Aug/ first week of Sept, So naturally they didn't ship many during Aug. Last year was first year production and due to an early line stoppage to make some production changes, production and delivery was extended beyond the normal shutdown for year end change over. "You can prove anything with statistics..." But if it make you feel better about your car selection you can believe what you want, you will anyways. (Oh, wait, you didn't have enough conviction to BUY a new AX car...)

Note to AB: Taking up a new career as a spelling/typing teacher or you just nitpicking again to boost your small ego? You ought to go over to the Honda tuner forums, where you could feel REALLY important correcting all their spelling errors!

Why does any of this matter?

I thought we raced cars, not sell cars for GM

The intent of this was to show where one of the best cars that GM has made in quite a while was standing...

Not to start an efight.

I am thinking you two need your own public access cable TV show. Kind of like "Meet the Press" + "Jerry Springer" but you only talk about Autocross topics.

Big Deal...Miata sales are down too....

http://www.miata.net/news/sales.html

Miata:
(36.2%) down month of August y/y (2006:1451/2007:926)
(6.7%) down year to date August (2006:12558/2007:11716)

Solstice:
(13.1%) down month of August y/y (2006:1515/2007:1316)
(17.7%) down year to date August (2006:14403/2007:11857)

Crossfire are mixed with better year to date:

http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2007 ... 60902.html

(25%) down month of August y/y (2006:496/2007:372)
+30% up year to date August (2006:5950/2007:7789)

It looks like the Solstice is king! My Solstice is great! The Sky is fugly. Crossfire is good looking. Miata is long in the tooth. My opinion. Every one has their own view. Although some of the posts are just immature and bashing.

Considering the Crossfire isn't in production anymore, I'm not surprised that they are up overall year to date, when you factor in that cars that had MSRP's of $30.5k are being sold in the high $18k range. The fact that they are down month to month from '06 I see as a factor of inventory.

When I look at the report on GM Sales. I don't see the end of the Solstice or horrible sales on it or the Sky. What I see is:

Cars:

1. The sports cars sales in general are down. Shows more of an economic issue that people are buying less fun cars in 07. Jury is out on Sky vs Solstice. Doesn't really matter anyway. There is only 1 true sports car made by GM.

2. GM should shutdown the Buick Division and put it out of its misery. Senior Citizens can find something else to drive.

3. The jury is still out on the G-series Pontiac. Too new to tell. The Zeta platform better work or they're fooked.

4. Impala production and sales are way up. This is really good news for GM. This is the platform that will carry Chevy. Monte Carlo is on its way out (don't tell my wife!). No longer needed.

5. Caddy sales are down across the board. Much like Item 1 with sports car. Shows more of an economic issue that car type issue.

6. Saab sales are flat. Then again it's a Saab. Boring...

7. Saturn. Well that ION isn't quite the hit they were hoping. Better do something and start selling some cars. Might be joining Buick. The Sky does look good.

Trucks and SUVs.

1. Buick SUVs. Same as above. Just it shut it down and let go...

2. Caddy SUVs. Kind of defies the economic reasoning for the above since their sales went up across the board. Obviously rich people are not as affected.

3. Chevy, Pontiac and GMC. Down overall. They just make too many different models. Time to unify that platform like the Zeta platform concept and sell about half the models they have today.

Actually, the Buick Enclave is probably as nice or nicer than the Infiniti FX series/Lexus RX series and is made extremely well. If they could build upon a model lineup like that, they could survive. - AB

For some reason, that damn Enclave looks kinda nice.

Pretty sure that the ion is dead for '08, being replaced by a saturn branded version of the opel astra, at least thats what my last Car and Driver said. . .

And an enclave looking better than an FX? I admit that styling is entirely subjective, but IMHO, no freaking way. Well built, nice inside? Maybe, but freaking ugly if you ask me. Maybe with a different grille it'd look better, I'm very anti-chrome.

Personally,
I think Saturn is the best thing GM has going right now Brand wise. With the influx of rebaged Opels, they have quite a good line started. The new Aura and the upcoming Astra (and Astra Turbo), they will have a very compelling line going.
