Motorola suxors.

Unless they've made dramatic improvements in their UI, battery life and build quality I wouldn't take a free Moto.

Samsung and LG have always been reliable. I'm pretty happy with my Treo 700p. A buddy of mine swears by his Blackjack.

I don't understand how people have issues with Sprint service. It's been solid for me, but maybe my expectations are low.

I'm smart enough to go to a store before lunch. Because in the afternoon it's like waiting for water at a refugee camp. Billings never been weird. I did lean into them pretty hard to get my phone for the price I paid, but other than that, I haven't had an issue. And the EVDO network is fast, fast.

As with all electronics, I recommend checking out CNet reviews for research before buying. They haven't led wrong yet. I've been with Verizon now for many years and am very satisfied, I just did a "new every two" upgrade replacing my old crappy LG phone with a new LG VX8300 which I'm quite happy with. As a phone it functions wonderfully and the camera isn't bad at all.

Mom's on Sprint and seems to like her basic Sanyo just fine. I can't talk to any of the data stuff, but her actual phone seems to work quite well.

I have Samsung A920's from Sprint, went to it from a older Palm based smartphone. The A920 is a decent phone, pretty good reception, camera is good enough to take wreckage photos when your wife wraps your SPV around a tree, but I wouldn't want to take panoramic vacation photos with it. Web is ok, but screen is a bit small to be convenient, but works well when you NEED to get to something. But, after having this phone for the last year, it has me wanting to go back to a Palm-based or similar phone that I can take short notes on, easily replicate my addresses, calendar, and to-do's, etc... and for this reason I'll be looking at Treo type devices on my next go-around.

As for Sprint, the service itself is decent so long as you're not in low population areas (like Orange county Speedway or Nothern Minnesota) and I've been with Sprint for over 8 years. My only complaints are that they have NEVER made a change right with my billing - it ALWAYS takes at least 2 months and callbacks to get things straight. Usually, though, the reps end up crediting things in my favor, so except for the aggrevation it works out. My IBM-reduced bill is around $68 for 2 phones sharing 750ish minutes, free N&W and PCS-2-PCS, with basic PowerVision service - but I think I've got an OLD plan that they don't offer any more.

goto elm city, its all farm, where i lived we had one tower.. and eventually it failed and collpased partially.. (bad storm i think did it in) so my signal sucked.. before i had my new phone, i lost calls regularly. it was almost amusing

Wait for it. It's an iPhone, minus several hundred dollars...

I love my N75. It does everything.

I'm back at Sprint for 2 more years and pretty happy about the deal I got. I cross-shopped AT&T and Verizon (those are the 3 carriers I get an IBM discount on), and neither could touch Sprint's costs for unlimited data plans. Everyone seems to be priced about the same for 1400 minutes shared on 2 phones at $90 (less discount) but Sprint's data package is $15 versus $30-40 at AT&T and Verizon, which was a deal breaker for me with the other providers.

Still I was determined to keep my bill under $50 per phone per month, and get all the minutes, data, and messaging that I could dream of using. And get a cheap PDA/Windows Mobile phone.

Enter Sprint Retention services. Honestly it was hard to make a case for wanting to leave Sprint to save money, since the other guys were more expensive for what I wanted out of the box. But I kept asking for what I wanted, and kept saying that I was willing to switch to AT&T for superior service, blah blah.

After about 2 hours on the phone, several failed promises, etc. I got the following for $50 per month. Anything close to it on Verizon or AT&T would have cost me $80-110 per month (even as a new customer, with IBM discount) for what's included.

$50 per month (no expiration, which some other retention deals I was offered would have)
1250 minutes
Unlimited Data access (on the fast EVDO network)
Unlimited text messaging
Free Nights start at 7pm
2 year contract

(I got two phones, so it's effectively 2500 minutes for $100 plus taxes)

I played with it for a while at the sprint store and it's nice. Not iPhone or Mogul nice but I'm a cheap bastard. It's small, thin, and light, and having the full-size Qwerty keyboard makes typing easy compared to a number pad. FAST web browser. I'm looking forward to the challenge of making Windows Mobile and Outlook play with my computer and other online services, and the Moto Q appears to have a LOT of enthusiast support.

Anyone else here a Moto Q user?

Mike, do you plan to sync this with Notes, at least calendar entries and to-do's? If you can figure it out, I'll probably buy a Q as well.

No plan to sync with work stuff right now, I'm doing personal only. But I bet someone has done it -- looks like anything is possible. Try Google searching for Motorola Q Lotus Notes sync.

So far so good playing with it today, I even installed Sling Player and watched TV streamed from my home cable box, neat stuff. Also set up Gmail on the native email app, have been browsing the web, it's a lot faster than my old phone. Also was able to do a fast Google Local search at lunch for a business and get directions. Just downloaded pictures of the kids and cars for show and tell Next up is syncing my Google Calendar with the native calendar app -- looks like I'll have to use a 3rd party solution for that. Also want to figure out how to enable Google talk for instant messaging, need to see if there is an MSN gateway for that. Can you tell I'm a big Google fan?

See if there's a GoogleMaps application for that thing. Should be. Browse to

If I have the address right, it should ping your phone for OS and tell you if they have one. 411 is dead to me.
