C5 in any configuration. and i second the vote on the Boxster. E46 is pretty much a pig. and expensive when it nukes.

overall, IMO i don't see any new cars for at least 5 years adding to the current mix. E36's just keep getting cheaper. i wonder when the Elises and Exiges will start dropping in price. that will be the day we all will dread.

Dread because the "other guys" will be so fast or dread because you/we are REALLY going to want to try to justify buying one?

Well, I was going to say 1990 Mustang LX 5.0s. After all, there's one advertised in Autoweek, ready for track use, for $34,500. (And to think the tax value on mine is $1430) Anyway, I'll wait for Sport Durst to knock a bit off the $66K sticker price on the Exige S. Heck, they have 3 of them parked out by the service road, can't be that exclusive....

I won't fight you on the MINI. I think I need to stay away from track days. I have bouts of stupidity immediately following.

What does that mean? Roll Bar? Stiffer suspension? What?

(Not that that would happen in our house!)

Hopefully you'll have to wait quite awhile for that. :-)

You won't be finding a C5 Z06 for mid-20's unless it's been ragged on hard and needs work. The typical ones look like Waxer Steve Z06s. Forget 2001, 1st year production, too many issues. 2002 expect to pay ~$32K. 2004 about $34-$36K.

Go find a 99 FRC for about $20K tops. Put about $2,500 into new coilover setup and adjustable bars. Another $2,500 into the engine bay. On track you have a car that will keep pace with a Z06 all day long. And very streetable. Then if you want to go all the way. Gut it and get it down to about 2800lbs. Send it up to the boys at Phoenix and let them build you a full cage.

You can make them into a seriously BMF on track.

Then again a relatively bone stock C5 Z06 ain't too slouchy on track either. And they look purty if they live at Steve's house. Well, after all the hay is removed...

I am taking a page out of the Ron Spencer book. I am learning on a realitively low horsepower car but the Vettes look like the best bang for th buck so it might be mine when I am over 50. BUT, I don't know about the consumables- Graham, Steve, Bernie-what does a track weekend cost you

I am also wondering what the Caymens will come down to in 3 years. My rule is the Camry rule. If something used costs as much as a new Camry then it is practicle. I think the Caymen is the most beautiful thing to ever come out of Germany.

Mike, get the info from the Viagra I mean Vette contingent and then price out consumables on the Caymen and do a spread sheet. That will help me make my decision.
