I missed another THSCC AX and this time it was not for a track event or even working on the Camaro.

Headed out to Asheville, NC for the BMW Riders Association's annual rally. We camped out on the Biltmore Estates. Included in our registration were free tours of the mansion, gardens and winery. I never saw any of those.

My brother and his buddy headed down to my place on their GS Adventures Thursday and we headed out at sunrise Friday.

Saturday morning we were on the road to Deal's Gap and the Dragon around 5:45. We got to Deal's Gap about 8:30 and made two runs on it. The place was packed with crotch rockets and full leather clad riders. What a nice group of people. I got complimented by a Triumph rider for being so smooth and the wonder show of sparks from the pegs dragging from my R 1150R.

We then decided to tackle the Cherohala Skyway. The elevation change goes from about 1500 feet above sea level to over 5400 feet above sea level. What an awesome ride and great scenery. I hooked up with 5 riders on their crotch rockets. I have never worked so hard keeping up. I am sure they were wondering what was up with BMW. But they were very respectful and very inclusive.

We did slow down after coming upon a Suzuki Hayabusa in about 8 pieces. The rider seemed to be in one piece. A waste of a brand new bike though.

We returned to the Dragon one more time. What a waste that was. It was worse than I40 with an accident. The road was clogged with cruisers and cagers. I had to stop and gas up and the Motorcycle Lodge morning crowd of riders where replaced with the Harley and cruiser crowd. Full leathers and ATGATT were replaced with shorts, t-shirts and sandals.

If you ever get a chance to run the Dragon on a bike...take it. Nothing compares to it...no AX, no track, no roller coaster.

But get there early and have some fun. Make sure you get over to the Cherohala Skyway. Be careful on that road. More riders and drivers are killed there than on the Dragon. Glad I read that fact afterwards :-)

By the way, BMW makes a lot better bike than they do cars! Next in line is a R1200ST or R1200S

[with crochet rockets and full leather clad riders.

I am assuming you mean crotch rockets, I guess crochet rockets have something to do with little ladies making those things you put on the sides of chairs!

Kidding aside, I am very jeleous. I want to get my bike bike together to take out their. Glad to hear someone who knows say how fun it is.

What's the status on banning tractor trailers? I read something like this was in the works - after seeing video taken behind some rigs, I could stand to wait a few months before a visit.
