I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a decent wrench who knows the ins and outs of mid-90's Dodge Ram trucks with the Cummins Diesel?

My mother has a '96 2500 that's having some bizarre issues that could either be TPS or transmission/torque-converter issues (not up/down-shifting at times, apparent gear slip from a standing start, occasional refusal to move). I spoke to fellow Spec-E30er, Rober Patton (of the Turbo Diesel Registry), but he had no local shops to recommend and diagnosing a truck over the phone from Cummins, Georgia is a little too much to ask. ;)

The truck is critical for the farm -- she needs it primarily to haul feed and the occasional horse. The closer to northern Durham/Rougemont, the better, but she's willing to take it to whoever can do the best job for a reasonable price.

She's had uniformly bad experiences with Morgan, in Durham, who will probably toe the Dodge line regarding these apparently all-too-common Ram diesel transmission issues: that the consumer shouldn't expect a heavy duty truck transmission to last more than 15,000 miles with regular maintenance and care.

Thanks.

PS -- I've been very quiet since joinging, primarily because I'm still jobless and the race car has been idle (other than weekly exercise) since November.

Hmmm.... anyone had any experience with the shop techs at:
  • Westgate Chrysler Jeep Dodge - Raleigh
  • Chris Leith Dodge - Wake Forest
  • Hendrick Dodge - Cary
  • Boyette Auto Mall - Roxboro
  • Southern States Dodge - Raleigh
Or, does anyone have a specific guy/gal at Morgan that they can recommend, who doesn't have their head up their ass?[/list]
