Bringing up an old topic! :twisted:

Went to dinner with some people over the weekend and we ended up on this topic over ice cream and coffee. It was mentioned that if something like this happened again that they would be very interested in finding out about it and making the trip to go play on Patriot course. Well I decided to take it upon myself and find out from the man who knows if NASA was planning on running anymore of these or if there was resistance, and if our club partnered with them if that would help. Well I was greeted with open arms and told that they are planning on an additional 2 events in 2008 and are trying to get 2 more on top of that! So in February and March/April, there will be CircuitX's at VIR!

As of right now, the price is still slotted to be $90 for the 2 hour session. There are no workers assignments, and they are very willing to help out with as much as possible in the event that we want to do something on our own. Plus you can make a whole day of it depending on what is happening on full course that day! He did give me more information than what I could ever do with, but did mention that if we did decide to do one on our own as well that he might be convinced to lend a helping hand with anything as far as running the event is concerned.

So, the way I see it is;
    We have a CircuitX in Feb put on by NASA
    We have a CircuitX in March or April put on by NASA
    We have our own CircuitX in May (or a mini time trial, say 5 laps each run)
    Then we rest until Oct or Nov and have another one ourselves

Reading back through these posts, it does look like there was some interest. If that interest still holds, then we can help fill this out easily, and it's cheap!

The only drawback (which really isn't a drawback) is that for the NASA events you have to be a member. I'm pretty sure that won't affect most of the people who may or may not go to one of these, but it may be a shocker for the others. But it's $40 well spent! :wink:

I'm in if we do this next year, and I'm 95% sure my wife would be too, I care! (whether or not anyone cares if I care is another story. . .)

Not true. Most people don't manage their "fun" calendars that far out or in the past.

Remind me when the events are booked and closer in time, and I'll be there in the M3 if I can! Sounds like fun.

Now Cosby, if you want to "partner" with NASA by simply drumming up support and getting some interest in the events, go for it. If it's anything more official than that, talk to the officers personally.

I'm guessing that the Time Trial crew is busy busting their asses putting on 5 top-notch events per year, and the autocross VPs are too, so there just isn't much club officer brain enery available.

But Cos, I'll vote for you as "special events coordinator" to get a stong THSCC presence on Patriot course mini-timetrials. Sounds like a blast.

Hey you know, whatever happens happens. I'm going out to drive the Subaru so more and see if I can do better than I did last time (second overall! :shock: )

As for any work that we would have to do if we did anything like this with them, it would only involve saying ok, getting registration open, and driving. :D I'll keep my lines open with them just in case. You never know when they may want an extra hand with something. :wink: If it does get deeper than that, then yes I'm definitely going to talk to someone who can actually make those decisions for the club. :wink:

Oh, and Special Events Coordinator huh? Sounds awful close to Special Olympics to me, not that there's anything wrong with that! :lol:
