The results were posted today. For some reason, my 53.1 didn't make it from the raw sheet to the results page, but they have Cosby down for a 53.6 -- which would be 1st in class & third overall!

:cheer:

Chuck you are the first person I've heard say they loved Grand East. I did it once last year (Mazda Drivers) but doubt I'll ever do it again. The course is fine, but the length is prohibitive to an HPDE. I think counting the warm up and cool down I may have made 5-6 laps total.

Yeah, that seems to be the most popular sentiment. I've only run it with the BMWCCA, and they used a pace car to get everyone on track while the current run group was exiting. That helped out some to give more time for each run group.

I simply liked running the Grand East course...I actually like South course, the bitch (which everyone hates it seems due to off camber exit), the spiral, etc, so it was fun to have that element thrown into the full course run. I also really enjoyed the South to North crossover part of the Patriot course. I'm weird I guess. :) I find going down into the Patriot course more fun than just blasting down the back straight and dealing with 145 mph speeds into the braking zone (that part isn't as big a deal now that I've got Stoptechs, but it used to be). I guess I never really focused on how many laps I got as the time on course overall was plenty.

I want to run the Grand West layout, but it seems unlikely that will ever come to pass. There must be some additional reason nobody wants to run it that way besides the one you mention.

Chuck

I like GE too. No you don't get a lot of laps but you get all the fun parts of the track - the run to the uphill esses and south bend, the stevie wonders, roller coaster, hog pen etc. I can't get too enthused about just south course without hp, Oak tree and spiral just don't do it for me. I am doing Full on Memorial Day

I like the Bitch turn as well, but the Sprial isn't too great in my car. At the bottom I'm right in between gears where 3rd bogs and 2nd's at the rev limiter.

I don't get to any "blasting down the straight at 145MPH" though. I have to push really hard to see 110-112, but I have no problems with braking. Stopping power I've got. Horsepower and speed, not so much.

The best part of GE to me was the link between South and North course. Not so much the track itself, but more so the approach to the Stevie Wonders. From North I can't get the entry speed into them that I can from GE. Since the SWs are my absolute favorite part of VIR that's a plus.

Of course if some group ever does Grand West maybe I'll give it a shot.

Strange. :? I consider those turns to favor a momentum car like a Miata. Ryan can go down the spiral at damn near wide open in his.

Or maybe you're saying that the straight in between the fun stuff is the not so fun part since you don't have HP? If so I agree with that. However I go to VIR for the turns, not to see how fast I can go on the straights. I think they have places made for just for that called drag strips. Can you say B-O-R-I-N-G ?

Or with the East Coast Timing when they are at Laurinburg.
At the last PCA AX at Laurinburg last month we did not used the main runway for the course. During lunch time a few did some pass on the main runway. I had to do one also, at 140mph the runway is starting to be pretty rough even following their white line. I decided to not keep going on.

Speaking of the ECT folks running at L'burg. Here is a C4 on his way to the 200 club. He almost made it. 197.5mph.

That goes w/o saying. Riding a motorcycle at the posted limit is dangerous enough. What happens when you fall off at 200 MPH? I'm not stupid enough to try and find out.

The straights are boring. All the Vette guys like them so they can brag to each other about how big their b@))s are because they went so fast....oh yeah, then they had to turn  I am not as good as Ryan, so haven't been able to do Spiral flat. :( THe run through the SWs are fun as is the climbing esses through Sbend. From what i can tell, south course would not allow me to pedal hard enough to go through the esses with any momentum

I asked the guy how bad the ride was. He said bumpy, but not a big deal. He said he only sprayed in 5th gear so he blew his 200mph run. He's going back in May and plans on spraying in 4th and 5th. Target 205-210mph.

Well after that little side distraction. I like Grand East once a year to break up the track and do something different. I have not heard of any club that runs Grand West. I agree with Chuck though. I think it would be fun to try once. Just to see how it flows. I'll still take VIR Full or Road Atlanta any day.
