We're piloting a wiki site for THSCC in which our ever-revolving cadre of volunteer staff and officers can record what we know about how to hold kick-ass driving events. Right now it's mainly club operation info but it could include general topics which are relevant to THSCC and would be good to keep around.

You can see the what we're playing with here:

http://thscc.com/tikiwiki/tiki-index.php

Please add content! PM me and I will give you the user id and password (for now -- will make it more editable in the future).

The pages don't have to be perfect, if you even have something on email or in a document please copy-paste into the site!

Reply to this thread with suggestions for new topics!

so basically, we'd use it as a storage place for general info that would potentially pass from volunteer to volunteer....coo.

i'd have one page per position. So, for example, I could post the annual tech form (i know it's on thscc as well) and the annual tech sticker .jpg that Simon created. The worker coords could post their event day checklist and list of previous gate/grid/stater workers.

stuff like that?

Yep. Stuff like that. Right now I'm looking for ideas and opinions for content -- not sure exactly how wide the scope should be yet...

Good ideas, keep em coming.

Chris has a good point. Break the pages up by the position and then put the relevant info there.

It's only editable by staff now but that may change in the future.

Just thinking out loud...

Track event stuff...
- How to set up and operate the timing system
- List of contacts for partner club (TZC, MAARC, etc)
- List of instructors? (might be a kludge to maintain)
- Tech guidelines?
- List of contacts for track management?

You can do the same for Novice Coordinator similar to what Chris listed for Tech. I'd imagine the same can be said for Pres, AXVP, Registrar etc. Make descriptions of everyones duties. Hints and Tips for the new folks taking over a position (like what worked and what didn't).

I have several docs for Novice Coord, Mentor. I had sent them to PJ last year and Mitch this year. Putting them in the Wiki would be easier. Since I'm not a staff member I can edit and clean them up a bit and email them to you Mike.

There are some things currently on the THSCC website that would be fine in both places. But should remain on the main site.

Good idea. Wiki(s) seem to be the latest fad but have merit that they may actually go the distance.

Thanks Graham - hold off for a bit, we're considering options for access. One way or another I'll make sure you have access to post your info. A wiki is no good if the people who have the info can't post it themselves!

That's fine with me. Staff member or not I'll be happy to work on the NC part of it and get what I have unloaded. I sent Mitch what he and Rick need to get started so it doesn't have to happen right away.

Also some other ideas. From docs I have from various staff members:

Care and Feeding of the Bus (other than the combination to the pad lock it should be ok to have it in the public domain).

Event Chair Guide (I have an old one from Dishman days with some updates).

Site Search/Coordination (I'm sure Miles has some generic info that is ok to make public.)

Site maps (We have some to scale for Sanford and I believe L'burg, with example course maps from previous events).

Trophy/Placard info (acceptable formats, sizes, examples - Brokeback AX is a must do example

Letters/Numbers (spec on sizes etc, keep a copy in here for AX/RX for people to download and print). Leave a copy on the main site also.

Autocross 101 Library (keep the basics on the regular site but on here share anything related to how to better do/understand AX).

Mike... I like the idea of having it club item specific...

For general track/tracking wiki stuff, I'd recommend Trackpedia.com

I'm very active over there and have. There isn't much autocross stuff on there, simply because its more focused on track stuff, so that would be a plus.

Just my two and half cents worth

If the club decides to continue with the Chick School tradition, you may want a section for the chick school event chairs (or subsection to the regular event chair section). While this might, technically, be considered just another school, the event chairs have done several *extra* things to make it more chick-friendly. I'd hate to see that get lost - at least not until we no longer need a chick-only school. :D

A site by site guide (including phone numbers and directions) to:

a) auto part stores (Advanced Auto, AutoZone, etc.)
b) hospitals
c) restaurants
d) preferred hotels
e) ?
f) profit!

Something like this would benefit both the novice and the occasional autocrosser as well as somebody that breaks chit (Schultz is starting autocrossing again, for example).
