Cline glad you are relatively ok. My brother taught me from day one to dress properly. Plus it is the BMW way to wear armor ;-)

Glad you're OK! My motorcycle tried to kill me a few years ago, I was wearing a T shirt and Jeans and still have gravel scars in my back, but my helmet saved my life. That was the last day I rode on 2 wheels. Now I agree with Vincent. I cringe every time I see someone riding in shorts and sandals or on the sweet thing behind the driver especially without a helmet. With a bike it's not if you will crash it's when.

I went to the Neurosurgeon today and she said I was a smart Motorcyclist. I didn't bother asking if that was an oxymoron. She also said the ER didn't know what they were doing and my neck was in better shape than her's!

You know I have always said that there are two kinds of riders those that have been down and those that will. Always thought that I would beat the odds. Now I am wondering if I am totally crazy about getting back on. It's like a drug, I love it. It is like going to the track, but only takes 5 minutes and I can do it all the time.

Was the dog owned by someone and if so did you ask them to pay for your bike?

Glad you are OK. Stupid owners who let dog run loose

i had the ambulance driver call the state trooper to get the collar off the dog, there was not a tag. It was in the country near the county line. Not in a very affluent neighbor hood. So far I haven't had the energy to deal with it.

A 20lb ground hog scurried out of the median and torpedoed the back left wheel of my SHO on the way to VIR a few years ago. Matt Nicholson was following me driving the old bus, and said the critter was spinning around like crazy until he ran it over (1).

Hope you heal up quickly, Cline. And sell the bike. People weren't meant to fly through the air and hit things any more than groundhogs were meant to stop school buses.

Note 1: Matt is not an inherently cruel person, but he knows that 1985 vintage school buses are terrible at lane changes. He really felt bad about squishing the groundhog.

Get a good handling convertible with enough power to make it fun. (Mini Cooper S 'vert?) You'll be 90% of the way there and alot safer to boot.

well, to have the same power to weight as a bike, that mini would have to have about 600 hp, but I tend to agree with you, I've wanted a bike for the longest time, but I think I'm gonna settle for a roadster myself. . .

It's not the wind in the face thing that does it for me, it is the handling, quick acceleration, since of freedom ( I say that while sitting at my desk unable to walk with out crutches for the next few weeks) , I know it is not practical but once you have the bug it is hard to shake. Anyway my neurosurgeon said I was a smart motorcyclist. Does that last sentence look odd?

I need some other motorcyclist to chime in here and make me not look crazy!

I agree, but some changes in my life have made me think about other ways to enjoy such things, like a good convert.

Once we are in the home alone again, we will get another bike for those cruises to the beach and such.

My biggest wreck was a freak accident with a broken spedo cable and spoked wheels. Lucky I just had tendon damage and a broken finger or two.

My kids are 25 and 20 in 2 days. I have enough net worth for everybody to be ok if I get killed. Motorcycling is the only thing my wife and I REALLY like doing together (besides College Football and that thing that resulted in the kids, but how many times a day can you do that?) so that plays a big part in it. My one worry is the disablity thing, that is alot more expensive than dying. I found a quote from Stonewall Jackson that I really like, goes something like this "My religious beliefs allow me to feel as safe on the Battlefield as I do in my bed, God has set the time of my death so I can change nothing by worrying" I don't know if I agree with that 100% , but pretty close. Well, I have some time to consider my options as I recuperate.

I know where you are coming from Cline. Though I have never owned a bike myself, I have ridden alot. Cruisers, crotch rockets, dual sports, even the odd BMW. NOTHING, I repeat NOTHING, beats the feeling of diving into a corner and almost, I'm not that crazy dragging your knee like the racers do.

No where can you get a vehicle that you litterally tape up the lights and enter into a race. There are NO cars out there, save for factory race cars, where you can do that.

Dammit Cline, now you have me wanting a bike again!!! My wife isn't going to like that one bit!!!!! :D

Having kids was the straw that broke the motorcyclists back for me. I wasn't having a ton of time before that and had even less after. Add in the feeling that I wanted to be around to at least help my kids make it to adulthood, and I decided to get rid of my bikes. But I always figured I'd ride again one day, and still keep my gear just in case I do and can still fit into it. So I don't begrudge Cline his will to ride... :)

Oh, I love riding bikes but really have no use for driving around with the top down in a car. Go figure.
