Anyone have a recommendation for a animal control place or handyman with a tall (40 ft) ladder who can put up some screens on attic vents? I was able to clean up and seal off the rear vent, but my 24' ladder won't touch the high one.

I called "Critter Control" in Durham and they can do it but their ladders must be made of pure gold based on the estimates they are giving me.

Anyways, hoping to find someone who can do it for cheaper. Thanks for any recommendations.

I have a 22 foot ladder, and you could duct tape that to another ladder and you are good to go.

I can bring the ladder and a video camera by this weekend. If needs be, I can also bring some beer to get you good and stupid first.

Tickets go on sale Friday at 5 PM :)

Can't help with the problem, but I'd suggest buying some bat boxes and installing those if you can to give the bats a proper home. They're great to have around for eating insects, though it's obviously not great to have them *in* the attic.

come on scott...that's crazy. especially when he could just back the trailer up against the house and setup his 24 foot ladder on top of it. i mean, let's use our heads here folks.

It's funny, we have bat boxes. They don't use them.

To give the bats a new home we were planning to tack some attic vents up on the back of the garage. Attic vents appear to be an optimized bat home design!

FYI bats aren't in the attic -- the screening on the back of the vents is sound, but the design of the louvers traps droppings at the bottom. I just got done pulling the screen and cleaning out the droppings (wearing a respirator -- apparently there are bad things in bat droppings.

I've got a backhoe. Scott has a video camera and is willing to bring beer. Tickets are $20 in advance, $30 at the door. Mike, what time shall we all be over?

Don't you have a car lift that you can wheel out into the yard? Amateurs, sheesh.

Wow finally someone posts a useful reply! :)

Thanks Rob -- I have a guy coming out tomorrow with ladders to do the work. Should be $150 or so, which I'll gladly pay since my personal comfort limit for ladder height is about 24'.

This is about 1/4 the estimate that Critter Control gave me over the phone. I'm in the wrong business!

Buy some attic vents and put them on the bat boxes. That ought to make them feel at home.

If you built a small bell tower on top of your garage, the bats could live there, and then you would have....

Ditto for me on the comfort level. I used it when I sided my garage and I had to fully extend it and go one step above the "Do not stand above this step" sticker  I won't ever do that again. I actually borrowed it from a neighbor who won't take it back, said something like whoever takes it keeps it
