Tom,

Couple of things to be careful of with Expeditions:

You MUST get one with the towing package. Otherwise, transmissions will be wear parts (tranny cooler comes as part of tow package).

I would also consider the 5.4L V8 a MUST for towing a ~3000lb door slammer. One thing about towing with an SUV is it's big and heavy. That effectively lowers the amount of torque/power left over to pull the load. While a 4.6L may be OK in a pickup (even then, it would be marginal) in an Expedition, it will really suck. And there is nothing worse than your tow kit sucking large.

In the Expedition the tow package with the 5.4L engine can be challenging to locate, and even confirm. Also make sure you check the rear end gearing. You don't want the ultra economy 3.23 rearend in a tow vehicle. 3.73 and 4.10 are what you want to look for.

Of course you could just get a Diesel Excursion and be set. :-D
