Yeah but not *that* much lower a price point. I priced new Miatas. To get one with leather, LSD, power goodies and whatnot like my S2000 has, you're looking at probably high 20s. Brand new S2000s are what, 34K or so? A difference yes, but not a tremendous one.

I thought about a Solstice GXP, but I'm just not down with the whole dealers upcharging on the cars thing. Besides...no trunk with the top down? No thanks. This is a street car first - everything else second.

I'll still race ya Chuck...

No upcharge if you can talk the talk (and pick up a sponsor to boot)

No soft top FG hardtop: track car to try to compete in the runoffs to compete with the rumored Club Sport GXP.

Hey we're here, not going to run away from anyone in AS, we come to compete, but we will not be running on stickies at Laurenburg, at 1200. a set we can't afford to burn them up locally on concrete. Sign up for some national events why don't y'all? We will be in Charlotte next weekend for some shakedown runs, but we are still waiting on some parts (catback, rear shocks).

Been there, done that. Just not for autocrossing.

Not for me. That's usually too far to go for not enough seat time - if I'm going to bother to travel, I'm racing wheel to wheel...

talk the talk is one thing, walking the walk is another ;) I've had plenty of sponsors over the last few years. Unless the performance is there, you won't keep their interest. Thus, walking the walk will be important.

$1200 a set for tires and you won't run them locally? Isn't your sponsor picking up tires? - AB

Is yours (or maybe you count Bryan as a sponsor)? "Had" ? Guess you didn't perform then since they are no longer sponsoring you? Our sponsorship arrangements are not something I feel we need to publicly discuss, lets just say they are all mutually agreeable and beneficial. Since Topeka is no longer on concrete there is little to gain from burning up tires running on it locally. We will run them at all asphalt events.
Talk the talk is negotiating a new vehicle purchase price... Then again that's not something you have much experience with either.

I've bought my fair share of new cars, so what do you mean?

As to sponsorship, going from an STS ride to a stock ride means different types things that sponsors are interested in. As for performance, I had no trouble last year trophying at every National event, bringing home $1380 in contingency with two firsts, one second, one fourth at Tours/Pros and a 4th place trophy in the ProSolo Finale and 5th place trophy at Nationals.

You would be thrilled to have the year I had. - AB

Didn't know you count contingencies as sponsors. We ran exactly 6 events last year due to health and family issues. Donna still coned away her third national championship in a car she hadn't even sat in since 05 Nationals. She more than tripled your 06 contingencies in 05, again in cars she never drove or practiced in between national events. She has 2 national championships (the first competitor male or female in NC region to win, and first and only to win two championships) and 3 third place finishes in the 5 National Championships she's been in, two 4th place overall pro solo series finishes in the very tough L1 class, two NCAC wins, one in open class (only female to do so in the 20 year history of the event), two SEDiv championships, one NE divisional championship, and was 2005 SCCA NC Region driver of the year, but who's counting? That's why her sponsors give her a lot more than just stickers to put on the car.
Me, I just go along for the ride and to support her, and I have a lot of fun doing it at an age most people retire and move to FL before. 8) :D

Once again, you quote all of Donna's statistics, when you were calling me out. I don't remember saying, 'Donna would be thrilled to have the year I had'.

Whatever you need to feel good about yourself. - AB

Come on fellas, you go pee on each other somewhere else. 90% of the people here don't even run national events, so until you are good enough to talk trash about being an XYZ time THSCC class champion don't pollute our nice local trash talk threads with nationals trash talk.

Edit:

I forgot the :D

Chuck and Aaron's deliberation about tire purchases and sponsorships makes a lot more sense to me now...I was just reading in Autoweek that *all* the Rick Hendrick owned/sponsored teams are trying to cut costs across the board. The article mentioned that Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, and Casey Mears are planning to run street tires at the Twin 125s in Daytona as well as the concrete sites at Dover and Bristol to save on expenses this year :-) I can't wait to see the time difference between streets and stickies. Anybody know what brand of street tires they are planning on running?

I don't know why but that thought jumped into my head and struck me as particularly funny, likely due to my sleep deprived stuper...no malice intended :-)

Sincerely,
Sponsorless in Hillsborough

Back from the dead but, those CR's are really starting to grow on me especially now that there are a few color options besides the promotional choice of smurf blue.

There's a $3000 premium vs. a regular S2000 if you add the a/c and stereo and only $2000 if you skip the aformentioned. One of the coolest things in my opinion is that the hardtop is inclusive.

I'm excited to see if these can mix anything up in AS next year.

S2000 CR Race Track Ready
Introducing the next roadster to epitomize the pure thoroughbred racer lineage of Honda motorsports: The 2008 S2000 CR “Club Racer”.

Intention The S2000 CR was designed to drive to the track, and around it. The CR is a competitor, and its driver should possess the desire to maximize its potential for improved track times at club racing events.

Quicker The factory-tuned CR is an extreme performer. Its aerodynamic design and stiffer suspension settings provide increased rigidity and increased downforce. It’s a purist’s sports machine that builds on the race-inspired attributes of the original S2000—then cranks out even more of everything sports car drivers crave.

Lighter The CR takes “track-inspired” to an entirely new level. With racecar-like suspension and lower weight, its cornering, braking and acceleration make it one of the best rides around. To accomplish this, the audio system and air conditioning are now offered as options and the spare tire has been replaced with a tire repair kit. This, along with other modifications, lightens the racy roadster by nearly 100 pounds from the original S2000. Add in a taut new chassis, quicker steering ratio, “stickier” tires, and track-inspired has never felt so meaningful.

Good news on the Rollbar front. Supposidly there are two new companies offering "bolt In" certified roll bars. I don't have the names though.

Karl, could this be a sign?
