Does anyone have (or know about) insuring a track only vehicle (not street legal/ not registered)?

I'm not looking for liability, just coverage from loss due to theft and natural disaster (Hurricanes, Falling Trees, Locusts... the usual.)

I'm thinking my homeowner's should cover it, but my agent (State Farm) thinks that it would NOT be covered because it is a vehicle.

If its not, are there special riders available for this circumstance?

Thanks,
Keith

hey Keith, i recently posed the same question here. seems to be a big gray area. i took my car off my companies' policy and insured it via Cline Hall with a liability only plan. turned the tag in to DMV also.

yep, not covered under homeowners. You can get limited coverage under a normal policy. I wouldn't roll it on or off a trailer with out liability coverage of some sort.

I had race-car insurance from Parish Heacock on my old Honda Challenge race car. It was reasonable ($150 a year? $200?), they used agreed-value, and it covered comprehensive for the car everywhere except pit lane and beyond -- storage, towing (don't forget about this one!), pits and paddock, etc.

Just google "race car insurance" and they're the first link.

I'll put that name on my roledex. Every time I have checked somebody out they were not licensed in NC. I guess my mistake is going through INsurance channels.

I've gotten quotes from Parish-Heacock as well. The one catch is that the car has to live in a garage when it's not on the track. The cover it parked in the garage, parked on your trailer (assuming it's headed to the race) and I think even parked in the paddock. If you are driving the car, it's not covered.

We use Parish-Heacock as well for the race car. You might check to see if they can cover the comprehensive portion of insurance on other classic/collector cars within the minimum premium. We got started with them years ago through a Lotus club for just the comprehensive. Liability still had to be through a carrier licensed in NC such as State Farm. At one time we had two Loti and the race car all covered within the minimum premium as I recall.

I got the Porsche insure through Parish Heacock also, the insurer is Great American, that seem to have been just bought by Infinity.
I got an agree value + road coverage with a 5-6Kmiles max. a year. Good price when compare to regular insurer.

If I remember correctly Patrice, I called about that and coverage is only available for classic cars 25+ or 30+ years old.

That is my experience with who I write with (Hagerty) I guess they are ok with the track. I have one guy with a Hot Rod that goes to Car guys events with it and they didn't say anything.

I will get a quote from Parish Heacock then, but I think I'll be out of luck as the car is not stored in a garage.

I was told that when the vehicle is on the trailer... my liability coverage for the towing vehicle extends to the trailer and its contents. Does this sound right?
Also, would an Umbrella policy solely cover it? or does the Umbrella simply extend the liability limits of existing coverage?

Thanks for all the info so far,
Keith

The LIABILITY is covered by what is pulling the trailer, what that means is that if you swing wide and hit another car, person, building. THEIR damages are taken care of by your auto liability coverage. What you are carrying on the trailer is NOT covered for any damage to it. The umbrella just extends Liability from any other underlying policy (auto, home, boat) again, just covering the other person and their stuff, not you.

My Allstate agent confirmed that the towing vehicle's liability insurance will cover damage caused by what you are towing, but not what you are towing. If you want to cover the towed vehicle, get some collision.
